I couldn’t find anything in the forums but just wanted to know if it was possible to manually set the order of the portfolio categories when adding sort options for portfolio items. As you can see here, http://support.curlyhost.com/work/, the sort options are listed in alphabetical order and the user would like to set that order based on priority, such as number of portfolio items in that category.
Is that even possible?

There is not a WordPress query setup for that and it would take a lot of time and code to add that in so it would have to be considered custom work. You can sort them manually by doing this though, https://kriesi.at/support/topic/portfolio-item-order-4/#post-364713.
