I updated to 4.3 on a site (see private content). I’m seeing some images not loading. These are generally images that are included in sliders or animated (images that are influenced by Javascript). I updated 2 other sites with no issues, and now I am having trouble with this one.
I have re-loaded the theme via FTP (I’m set up with a parent/child theme, so it’s super easy to do).
I have disabled a few plugins with potential conflicts.
I have turned off caching.
I’m not sure what else to do. Can you look at what’s going on? Thank you!

May 4, 2018 at 5:22 am #951281Hi,
Sorry I was unable to login, please check.
Please try the Performance features settings again, and then go to the General Styling > Quick CSS field and enter a space to enable the “Save all changes” button, click to save. This will re-merge your css & js files.
Then go to your page and clear your cache, and see if that helps.Best regards,

I made a change to the Quick CSS and turned on the performance features. I dumped the cache. The images in the homepage slider still don’t appear.
If I disable Javascript file merging and compression, the images appear once again.
I expect a plugin conflict, and I will check on that. But if you can provide any other guidance, that would be great. I appreciate your help.
May 4, 2018 at 3:35 pm #951728After additional testing, I think I have isolated the issue to the “disable Javascript file merging and compression.” With that option disabled, everything looks right. With that option enabled, some images aren’t displayed. This occurred with all plugins disabled.
Any ideas on resolving the issue?
May 7, 2018 at 3:30 am #952446Hi,
I see that you have a web socket error:WebSocket connection to blob:https://public-api.wordpress.com/02dd9a78-a971-4551-9cb1-803b66a2f59a:164 WebSocket connection to 'wss://public-api.wordpress.com/pinghub/wpcom/me/newest-note-data' failed: Error during WebSocket handshake: Unexpected response code: 403
My research points to a JetPack error where the solution is:
If you use the Jetpack plugin on your site, go to this page and deactivate the Notifications feature:
https://yoursite.com/wp-admin/admin.php?page=jetpack_modulesI know you said you tried disabling all plugins, but perhaps this worth a try.
Another thought is your host caching at the server level, perhaps with varnish or something else?Best regards,
MikeMay 7, 2018 at 11:44 pm #952972Thank you! I will disable that notifications module. I’m not sure of any other server-level caching, but I’ll look into it.
I just deactivated the notifications feature, turned on the Javascript merging and compression, and I still get the same behavior. I will keep testing under different circumstances (like you said, maybe a server-level cache issue). Thanks for helping me track down what’s happening.
