    Hi our new site is loading very slowly and we are getting connection timeout errors. The site is:

    Home

    I have been on to 123-reg the host and they made some adjustments but it is still taking over a minute to load the front page. This is the error log. Please can you have a look and find the fault. The errors seem to be coming from Enfold.

    Hey guys just to update you on this, things have got a lot worse. I had errors when I installed a plugin. Then I noticed there was a Enfold update but when I ran it it corrupted the whole site. I uploaded a zip of Enfold 4.0.2 and unpacked it which has got the site back up. I don’t want to try and update the theme again until tomorrow as I have not got time to fix it again now.
    Can you take a look at the plugin error I get on the plugins and updates page and see if you can see the problem. I think it may be related to my last post:

    Hi Victoria,
    I just saw your message in private data. I am afraid it just tells me what I already know.
    It was on a staging server before going live.
    The errors appear to be coming from the theme. In particular layerslider.
    Are you still looking into it?

    Hmm, still could not connect are you using port 21 or 22? also then encryption is it “Use explicit FTP over TLS” or plain ftp?

    Hi,

    Thanks it worked. I have checked it and you’re site loads in few seconds, checked by enabling debug and logs and there are no errors though there are some php notices which can be ignored since it doesn’t cause any issue but to fix it, you need to update to the latest version of Enfold. Also just to note that the site returned a 500 Internal Error once when I tried to click on the edit page (happened only once), which I think there’s some issue with the server.

    Hi Nikko,

    The problem is it wont update. I just tried unpacking the zip of Enfold again and got the error below.
    Please try and update it yourself. The folder named zenfold is the one I just upacked that doesn’t work. The current enfold folder is version 4.0.2 which works so don’t overwrite it.

    Hi,

    I have checked your site again, tested zenfold and return it back to enfold, and moved zenfold in the wp-content folder to make sure it doesn’t cause any conflict as it is has the has the same Theme Name with Enfold. I also tried to make an update however I was disconnected in the middle of uploading files, and noticed that you have already removed the error showing in 4.0.2, let us know if you still need further assistance.

    Hi,

    Sorry for the late response, can you check if it’s still showing on your end? I have deactivated the layerslider temporarily by adding this code in functions.php of your child theme:

    add_theme_support('deactivate_layerslider');

    and commented it out to activate it back, tested the layerslider (works fine), checked the dashboard, error doesn’t show anymore on my end. As for speed, it was good on my end. Let us know if it there’s still some issues.

    Hi Nikko,

    We still have the same errors coming from Enfold. Do you mean that they are acceptable? I don’t want the site owner seeing them so they are not really acceptable for me. I am not using the LayerSlider WP on the site if that is what they are referring to so I don’t need it but isn’t deactivating it hiding a problem in the theme that should be fixed?

    Hi Rob,

    No, sorry for the confusion, what I said just deactivated it temporarily by adding those codes and by commenting it out (the same as removing the code), it’s activated back, you should still see Layerslider in your backend, what I did was just refreshing it, which seems to get rid of the error (screenshot in private content). I did check just now and don’t see any errors on my end.

    The errors aren’t on the dashboard (screen grab) they are on the updates and plugins section. I have installed a plugin and cleared the cache and am still getting them. Also tried another computer and they are there.

    I ran a page speed test on your site and here is the result. You can also check which files are taking time to load.

    Mostly the images are holding the site from loading fast. Please install this plugin https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-smushit/ and optimize the images.

    Speed also depends on hosting company. If your site is hosted on a shared server with other sites it will struggle to handle the request and slow down.

    I’m not sure if the initial error you got has been resolved. If you still find the error in the log please check the below link

    If you still get the same error please ask your hosting company to increase the memory.

    Defining a higher memory limit in WordPress and if possible increasing the memory on the hosting server should resolve this issue.

    To increase the WordPress memory limit please access wp-config.php file and add the below line 

    define('WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '256M');

    and you can contact your service provider to increase the memory limit.

    Make sure you are using the latest version of the theme which is 4.2.6

    You can disable layerslider from Enfold > Layout Builder > Integrated (Bundled) LayerSlider Plugin
