Please see this post.
It has a single category of Travel. The Travel category is defined as having a Parent category of News. The main menu is built with News as the top level then Travel as a sub-level under it.
If you select the Travel page via the menu then the Beautiful Winter Destinations post appears as it should on the list of Travel-only posts.
The News page Blog Posts setting is for ‘News’ as the only category. The Travel sub-category is not selected to show (nor is the other News sub-category of ‘Have Your Say’).
If you display the News page then the Travel-only category Beautiful Winter Destinations post appears on the News page, when it should not. In looking back at a few other posts, the same thing is happening for ‘Have Your Say’-only posts: they are appearing correctly on their ‘menu category’ page but also incorrectly on the News page.
It appears that on the News page that Blog Posts is selecting the parent category but also incorrectly displaying the child categories in the list of posts. How do I stop the Travel-only post appearing on its parent category News page?

Can you please create us a WordPress administrator account? post it here as a private reply.

Please note that this is a live news website that has new posts added on a daily basis. The Travel-only post Beautiful Winter Destinations is now listed on page 2 of the News pages and will soon be on page 3 (or even later) as new stories are posted today, so you may need to search to see it displayed on the parent News page.

October 5, 2016 at 4:55 pm #695619Hi,
to be honest I don’t understand exactly what the whole issue is about. I think screenshots showing clearly what you’re talking about would help a lot. Please use imgur.com or dropbox to make things clear for us. Thanks you.
Best regards,
AndyOctober 5, 2016 at 9:57 pm #695769Not quite sure what is so difficult to understand, my original post – that I posted over a week ago – explains it but I will do so again.
This post has a single category of ‘Travel’.
This post has a single category of ‘Have Your Say’.
The site has many other categories for its posts, one of these is ‘News’.
This News page and its sub-pages displays all the posts that have the category ‘News’ assigned to them. The page is created using ALB and has the Blog Posts element on it, for which the ONLY category selected is ‘News’. You can check this using the login details provided above.
The Beautiful Winter Destinations post is showing on this page, which is a sub-page of News. The post does NOT have the category News assigned to it, there it should not appear on the News pages.
The Have Your Say – EU Referendum… post is showing on this page, which is a sub-page of News. The post does NOT have the category News assigned to it, there it should not appear on the News pages.
See the posts showing on the News pages here on Imgur. You can click on the individual post links above to verify that they do not have the category News assigned to them.
The problem – posts that do NOT have the category News assigned to them are appearing on the News pages when they should not.
My belief is that Blog Posts is not working properly – the ‘News’ category is the parent of both ‘Travel’ and ‘Have Your Say’ categories and it is incorrectly including child categories when displaying the lists of posts, when said child categories are NOT selected for inclusion in the Blog Post settings.
[As above, this is a live news website that has new posts added on a daily basis. The posts referenced on pages 7 and 69 may soon be on later News sub-pages.]

October 7, 2016 at 11:31 am #696391Hi,
I can’t find “Beautiful Winter Destinations” on this page, which you’ve provided. Also I can’t find “Have Your Say – EU Referendum” on this page, which you’ve provided.
So maybe you could fix it already? Otherwise this is still very unclear for me unfortunately. I still think that screenshots would help to make things clear for us.
Best regards,
AndyOctober 7, 2016 at 2:49 pm #696522@Andy – did you not read this in my last post?
“… this is a live news website that has new posts added on a daily basis. The posts referenced on pages 7 and 69 (of News) may soon be on later News sub-pages”“Beautiful Winter Destinations” is now on page 9 of News – http://www.henleyherald.com/news/page/9/
“Have Your Say – EU Referendum” is now on page 71 of News – http://www.henleyherald.com/news/page/71/Depending on when you look at this problem again, those posts might be on page 10 or page 72…. or perhaps later – it depends on how many News stories are added each day, because it pushes back the two posts onto later sub-pages.
@Andy – “I still think that screenshots would help to make things clear for us.” I provided you with a screenshot in my last post here – http://imgur.com/a/rNBGAThe problem is this – both those posts do not have the category of News assigned to them yet they appear on the News (sub-)pages.

October 10, 2016 at 12:49 pm #697268Hi,
this is WordPress’ default behavior. You are using “Travel” as category, which is directly connected to your category “News”: http://i.imgur.com/nGuo5bi.png
Use a different category, which is not part of “News”.Best regards,
AndyOctober 11, 2016 at 6:32 pm #697998Well, obviously not your ‘fault’ but I have to say that seems a bit dumb on WordPress’ part, but I guess I’ll have to live with it. Thanks.
