Hi,
I’m having trouble making my layout work. I would like my main content on the left, below the larger banner image, and a sidebar on the right.
The problem is the theme doesn’t seem to support customization of the sidebar like you can the main content elements. I tried without the sidebar function and making the sidebar a 1/3 or 1/4 area instead. The problem with this is that the next set of containers you make will end up below the “sidebar”.
If you could look at my design & my website page how it looks now and maybe you could advise the proper route to take as far as configuring the layout.
I downloaded custom sidebars pro plugin, but it doesn’t seem to work with the enfold theme.
I’m also not a CSS wiz and have just been using the tools provided for me with the advanced layout editor.
Thanks in advance,

I would like to add a color section below the sidebar right above the footer. I understand this isn’t possible with how wordpress works. I’ve found in other threads that you can make a 2/3 column & a 1/3 column and add in the widget sidebar into the 1/3 column. This works great, however, the 1/3 column with my sidebar pushes down the 2/3 column content underneath the other 2/3 column content to where the fake sidebar column ends.
Is there a way to do that layout where the fake sidebar column doesn’t push down the next line’s main content?
Refer to my screenshot above to get an idea of my desired layout
February 23, 2015 at 6:44 pm #400907Hi!
To get that type of layout you’ll need to set your page to full width (no sidebar) and then use the widget area shortcode with our columns.
Kind of like so..
1/3 + 1/3 + 1/3 (with widget area inside) color section 1/3 (with widget area inside ) + 1/3 + 1/3 color section etc etc

ElliottFebruary 23, 2015 at 7:48 pm #400959That works great. Problem is though my sidebar pushes down the next set of 1/3rd boxes that are underneath those initial 1/3 boxes
So the longer the sidebar the further my next line’s content gets pushed down if that makes sense. Here is an example of what’s happening: http://i.imgur.com/vzgGKav.png
desired effect: http://i.imgur.com/IltbgN7.png
I could split the sidebar in two, but that doesn’t look too great.
What if use the footer as my “color section” area? I don’t need an extensive footer and I could throw a custom color, a title, & some book links in there. What do you think?
Thanks for the help so far, Elliott
February 24, 2015 at 11:42 am #401297Hi!
Why don’t you just add the content inside the first two 1/3 column layouts instead of adding another 1/3 layouts below?

IsmaelFebruary 24, 2015 at 5:05 pm #401519Hmm I could but how could i span my titles of each section across 2 1/3 column layouts?
Check out my page so far here and you’ll see what I mean: http://urbancrochet.com/?page_id=2590
Underneath the banner area I have a title and paragraph that spans 2/3rds of the way, then under that another title and paragraph with a divider, than under that I have individual 1/3rd columns for the pictures on the left & paragraph on the right.
Am I able to put all of that main content in one column with a sidebar column on the right?
I’m using individual boxes so I can have header text, then body copy, then images accompanied with text. Not sure I can do all this with just 1 2/3 column or 2 1/3 columns.
thanks for the help Ismael
February 24, 2015 at 7:05 pm #401623Ok, now I’m getting somewhere based on your suggestion. I’ve got all of my main content in one 2/3rd box and the sidebar in a 1/3rd box to the right.
Check it out here: http://urbancrochet.com/?page_id=2647 I will refer to this page as HOME 2
Some questions regarding my main content
1. If you refer to my other page where I used an actual sidebar here: http://urbancrochet.com/?page_id=2590 (we’ll call this HOME 1) you can see that my main content images, like starter kit image, yarn image, etc, have a nice pop in animation when you scroll. I would like to do this on HOME 2. Problem is in HOME 2 the picture and text are in one text box, so I can’t manipulate the image as much to do that animation.
Is there a way to add a media element, then to the right of it a text box if it’s in the same 2/3rds column? It can be done if they are on top of one another vertically, but haven’t figured out how to do it side by side in one column. In HOME 1 I used two columns to achieve this which I can’t do as I’m reduced to using only 1 column for all of my main content.
2. In the event I have to keep the picture & text in the same text box can I add more padding between the picture and the text? The picture on the right and text on the left are quite close to each other using this method.
3. Still styling the sidebar so ignore the crazy alignment stuff :p but can I add a vertical separator line like the sidebar in HOME 1 has?
Thank you so much, I appreciate your help Ismael
February 25, 2015 at 1:17 pm #402013Ismael, I figured it out!!!
I can just use a grid row and put all of my layout elements in there. This way I have much more control over everything and nothing gets pushed down as it’s all in the same cells of the grid.
Thanks for the help, though!
February 25, 2015 at 1:19 pm #402015Oh, but I still need a means to make a vertical line between the two columns (main content & sidebar). Maybe I could just make a third column in between the two and put a vertical line in there by using an image of a line or a repeating pixel or something.
