    Hi Kriesi-Team,

I apparently once removed the base URL for categories and tags. But now I want to use the default settings of WordPress, so that the URLs for categories look like “https://my-website/category/my-category”. I added the words under Settings => Permalink. But they are not included in the URL. Can you help me? I have created a user for you (see below).

    Thanks and greetings
    Sandra

    Hi Victoria,

in this case, another question came up: I would like to display blog posts on a page with title and text excerpt. However, no excerpt is shown (I insert the URL below). Could you please have a look at this as well? Thanks!

    Hi Victoria,

I would like to extend the length of the class “slide-entry-excerpt entry-content”. And I would like to show the author and category at the first section of this page like at your demo page: https://kriesi.at/themes/enfold-2017/blog/ (i.e. entries “A schmall gallery” or “A nice entry”). Could you help me in this case, too?

    Best regards

    Hi Sandra,

The password still did not work for me. Are you pressing “Save” when you generate a new password?

If you are building posts with the Advanced Layout Builder you need to add the excerpt manually.

    Hi Victoria,

I’m sorry for the confusion. I actually made a mistake with the username. It’s just as I wrote in private content. Then could you look at the problem with the category subfolder again?

The problem with the text excerpt is now solved. Thanks for that! But I also have a new question: The assignment of the categories doesn’t work. When I click on a category, the posts from other categories are also displayed. Could you please have a look at this again? Thanks!

    Best regards

    Hi tredition,

Please tell us how to reproduce the category issue step by step? Which pages is it happening on?

    Best regards,
    Victoria

    Hi Victoria,

two questions are still not solved:

    1. By default, WordPress is configured to have a category URL for posts that looks like this: https://mywebsite/category/mycategory. The subfolder “category” is set by default for the categories. But not in our WordPress. I then entered “category” and “tag” manually under Settings > Permalink for the taxonomies. But still the URLs are not displayed correctly. Can you explain why?

    2. If you click on the category of a post in the breadcrumb, all blog posts that are not in the category will be displayed on this overview page. I’ll add some links at the bottom of the private content where you can see that blog posts from other categories are also displayed.

    Best regards

    Hi Sandra,

Here are some links on the permalinks for you:

    Hi Victoria,

thanks for your message about the base category. I’m afraid you misunderstood me. I know how to configure the permalink and also how to customize the base URL. But the settings for the base URL do not work on my site! Could you please have a look at this again? The other question please see in private content.

    Thanks again,
    Sandra

    Hi Sandra,

The thing is the changes you introduce in the permalinks normally cause conflict with taxonomies and so the issues are interconnected and not related to the theme. Please reconsider your permalink settings.

    Best regards,
    Victoria

    Hello, Victoria,

I don’t quite understand what you’re trying to tell me. I have set up a WordPress test system, where I made the same permalink settings as we did with our live system. There we created the post with https://mywebsite/postname and the category with https://mywebsite/category/mycategory. The live system does not work like the test system.

Could you please also take a look at my second question again, which I wrote in my private content?

    Thanks and greetings
    Sandra

    Hi,

    Thank you for the clarification.

We replaced the permalink with /%category%/%postname%/ to include the first or main category in the post URL. (see private field)

    Hi Ismael,

you can’t just change our permalink structure without asking me first! This has a big impact on our SEO profile! I have just changed the permalink structure on https://website/%postname%/! I did NOT want to have the categroy in the link here. That’s how we used to have it in the past. Such a change results in extensive 301 redirects in the htaccess! This change that you have made, you should have agreed with me before! I am really speechless about this frivolous change. You don’t read my questions properly at all and apparently don’t understand what the bug is! Would it be possible to talk to someone who speaks German? I am afraid that there are big language barriers here.

    Hi,

Sorry for the confusion. Above, you mentioned that you tried to apply this same fix, but it just didn’t work.

But not in our WordPress. I then entered “category” and “tag” manually under Settings > Permalink for the taxonomies. But still the URLs are not displayed correctly. Can you explain why?

If you don’t want to retain the changes, please remove the %category% placeholder from the permalink field. This change will not affect your site immediately unless you ask search engines like Google to re-index the site or the bots crawled the site right after we made the changes, which is very unlikely. This process usually takes weeks even months.

We’ll forward the thread to moderators who speaks German. Thank you for your patience.

    Best regards,
    Ismael
