Should i update Child theme through WordPress Dashboard or parent theme in ftp?

Hi,

I am wondering if it’s fine to enable “theme update” if you are using a child theme?
From reading these forums, it seems like you need to update the parent instead so i dont think thats the way to do it? in that case, is manually updating the parent through ftp the only option? or will the update setting on a child hook up to the parent automatically?
