One of our clients is having a major issue with the way search engines have indexed their category pages.
http://www.sundancemanagement.com/
We have set the portfolio slug to be “community” and have set up Portfolio Categories of Apartment Communities & Mobile Home Communities. Apartment Communities as sub categories of states (IN, KY, OH, SC) and Mobile Home Communities has (IN, KY, OH).
The issue is that Google and Bing have indexed all the Apartment Community pages showing the wrong breadcrumbs. So for example, the page http://www.sundancemanagement.com/community/mansion-row-apartments/ is clearly categorized as an Apartment Community on the back end, but Google has indexed a page showing it to be a mobile home community. Upon further testing we found you can type any combination in the url and get to the Mansion Row Apartments page. For example, if you type http://www.sundancemanagement.com/MOBILE-HOME-COMMUNITY/mansion-row-apartments/ you get redirected to http://www.sundancemanagement.com/community/mansion-row-apartments/ but the breadcrumbs on the page show Home > Mobile Home Community > Mansion Row Apartments. Which is wrong. If you go directly to the page via http://www.sundancemanagement.com/community/mansion-row-apartments/ the breadcrumb was correct. Home > Apartment Community > Mansion Row Apartments
The XML sitemap doesn’t show the mobile home refernece anywhere so we are not sure how Google and Bing have indexed those pages under that mobile home community link. But they have. Do a search and you’ll see it.
So today, we removed the breadcrumbs from appearing on the page and resumbitted the sitemap through WebMaster tools. This could potentially clear things up, but Google is rewarding breadcrumb use on sites so we feel like that isn’t the ideal solution. We’d rather have the breadcrumbs appear if we can.
We are running the Yoast SEO plugin and everything should be set up correctly.
Can you please help?

The breadcrumbs are somewhat dynamic based on the session. The most recent update added in the ability for you to manually set the parent page on each portfolio item from the right hand side of the page instead of using sessions.
So in your case, that is what you would want to do so that they are static.
