My client has a number of published portfolio items. Everything has worked for some time now but now these items are now ‘not found’.
The items are fine in the back end and can be edited etc. but when I click ‘view’ I get the message ‘Nothing Found
Sorry, the post you are looking for is not available. Maybe you want to perform a search?’. Links to these items from the front end do not work either (obviously). This is so for all portfolio items.
Can you point me in the direction of what might cause this please?

My client fixed this himself with the help of ChatGPT :(
he did this:
Dashboard → Settings → Permalinks → Save Changes
Don’t change anything — just hit Save.
That rebuilds the WordPress rewrite rules, which control how URLs map to posts.
It worked.
