I have Event Espresso installed on a site. I can add an item to the cart, but when going to the cart page, the item is gone. Only in Safari does it work properly (so it’s not a server cache issue). I have disabled all plugins and still the issue persisted. When I switched to Twenty-twenty theme, it worked properly, leading me to believe it’s a theme issue.

This seems to be working correctly on Firefox Windows 10 — the product remains in the cart page even after a few page refresh. Where did you test it?
