    Hi there,
I have to put an animated gif-file on my site. I must say, that the whole process worked flawlessly months ago.

Now: The gif works fine with infinitely loops.
When I upload the file first, only the file name appears in the media-library, not the graphic itself.
After that I checked the file and folder permissions (750 and 640) – without a positive effect – I renamed the gif and uploaded it again.
Now, everything seemed right at the first sight. But on frontpage the gif had changed its behaviour: it just looped once and then stopped.

I phoned to the provider, who could not help me.
Given that everything was working normally some time ago, could this possibly be due to an incompatibility between Endfold and the new wordpress?
Can you give me some advice on what I can do?

    Best regards
    Grobi

    Hi Victoria,
    sorry for my late replay!

Thanks for the “beginner-help”, unfortunatley it does not help.
When I imported the animated gif via text block and the “add media” button, than the just imported gif appears in the preview area on the right side of the window below of the older animated gif I imported some months ago. Here you can see very well that the old gif looped endlessly, while the new one stops after one loop.
I find that strange because the gif was working correctly when it was still on my computer.

Can there something be wrong during the upload?

    Best regard,
    Grobi

    Hi,
Sorry for the late reply, I took a look at your gif in my browser, on it’s own, and it doesn’t loop like the other one does. I also checked the file in your media library to see if it loops, but it’s the same.
If it was going to loop it would when loading it in a “new tab” of the browser.
Please check the settings of your gif tool to ensure that it is set to loop. Otherwise please link to the original file that loops so I can test on my localhost to find a solution.

    Best regards,
    Mike

    Hi Mike,
nice to “meet” you again, I hope you are fine!
    Thanks for investigate my problem!

    Through your hint

Please check the settings of your gif tool to ensure that it is set to loop

I discovered in photoshop that the gif was not set to “endlessly loops”. And that, although the original file on my mac did exactly that – loop endlessly. To be honest, I do not understand why that ist like that.
So I was able to put the gif on the page in the meantime and it runs as it should – thanks for your hint.

Still strange is that I have to rename the file before the media library accepts it. Without renaming the file, only the file’s name appears in the library, but not the graphic itself.
Do you have any idea why?

Original name – not accepted: 180223_Banner_BewohnerPlus_v2_728x90.gif
    New name – accepted: 180223_Banner_BewohnerPlus_v2_neu.gif

    Best regards

    Hi,
Glad to hear that the tip helped, WordPress creates files that are named the same, I believe that is why you couldn’t use it.

    Best regards,
    Mike

Oh, yes, it will be that.
    Thank you very much!
