We use WPML for our site and also the blog post slider. The post slider shows all posts that are available in the language version that the page is being displayed in. However, in our case, most posts are in english only and do not have a translation. Is it therefore possible to set the blog post slider to show the blog posts independent of the language used on the page?

I’m not sure if that is possible or not. I would try contacting the WPML authors to see if it’s feasible but it would most likely take a lot of customization to get working.
If your wanting more posts to display then the easiest way would be to just translate some more posts.
