We have a site that has 6k+ posts and by client demand this has been migrated to a new host and theme. We need a way to restore the functionality of the av_ shortcodes, since especially the media related content is missing now and seems to have an impact on the SEO rankings of the content (since a lot of stuff is missing due to the fact that the shortcodes are no longer expanded / evaluated).

Is there a way or better a separate avia shortcodes plugin to help us bring in this functionality into the new theme?

    Hey droomagentur,
As I understand your question, you have a site built with Enfold using the Advanced Layout Builder shortcodes and wish to move it to a new theme and convert the Advanced Layout Builder shortcodes to plain HTML.
Unfortunately, there is not a way to do this, the Advanced Layout Builder is not a plugin in the Enfold theme, it is the core of the Enfold theme.
Your best option is to leave the Enfold site active for SEO and recreate the new site on a staging site manually, once it is done you can remove the Enfold site and make the staging site active. There is no automatic or easy way to do this.

    Best regards,
    Mike

    Thanks Mike,

as stated the site has already been moved / transitioned. Since the features are basically just shortcodes which get expanded, I’d say it should be possible to bring the image, slider and one or two other media-related functionalities over to the new theme or a separate plugin, don’t you think?

Apart from that I’d consider it a pretty bad business model to basically bind website owners to Enfold because they lose functionality / introduce major problems due to the fact that Enfold uses stuff under the hood that is basically proprietary. Don’t get me wrong, no accusations here but I’d expect you guys to not take site owners hostage by making large portions of sites unusable due to the framework…

    Best,
    Stefan

    Hi,
unfortunately, in your case there is no way to do this, the shortcodes created are for the Advanced Layout Builder and have no direct HTML render, you would also need the CSS & javascript to render the elements.
The Advanced Layout Builder is a proprietary editor with custom elements and framework that our team has created over many years.
I can hear your frustration, but to solve this migration you will need to create a new site using the new theme and new builder that you choose.

    Best regards,
    Mike

I understand your position but to be honest, selling and promoting a theme that contains proprietary tech without ever communicating this and thus trapping site owners is really bad practice. Other theme devs make use of plugins like Slider Revolution, Visual Composer or Elementor without taking away the possibility to migrate sites.

And as a side note: this has nothing to do with “frustration” – your design and development choices as a theme development team cost us money (and lots of it) due to the fact that we will need to refactor more than 6.000 articles because you did not consider modern development practices and some common sense.
