I hadn’t updated my theme since I purchased it, and just a couple weeks ago I decided to update to the most recent. I’m now having some strangeness with the built in custom post type portfolio items. When I first set up the theme I made some changes to the CPT little stuff like changing the admin to say “classes” instead of “portfolio”, and I guess I changed it on the front end with the links as well making it say “classes” or “class-types”. I realized after updating the theme that I had done that to the theme and not the child theme, which is my mistake, but now I can’t even create new portfolio items. If I do I get the same 404 error like the page doesn’t exist. Even if I copy and paste the link directly from the portfolio item.

At first I thought my links had just gotten broken, as seen when you click any of the classes from this page: http://www.exhalefitstudio.com/classes/

But the link is correct, it’s what you see on the admin side, but WP or the browser isn’t recognizing that they exist. I’m at a loss for what’s going on! Thanks in advance for the great support you all provide!

Also tried switching to the parent theme (eliminating my child theme) and I still am getting the 404 error. So, it’s not my child theme, which is mainly some css changes.

Hey Guys! I really need some suggestions on this! These are some of the most popular and important pages on the whole site. Please get back with me!

I don’t see a place to mark this as answered, but I problem solved with a buddy of mine, and made some changes to WP Settings > Permalinks. After changing them from month/date to default, and back. The issue cleared up. I have no idea why, but I guess it wasn’t a theme issue, but a WP one. No need to follow up.

    Hey!

Sorry for the delay. Glad you figured that one out. Usually, you need to regenerate the .htaccess when you encounter a 404 page. Flushing the permalink is one of the ways to do it.

    Cheers!
    Ismael
