Hello,
Can someone please explain to me the difference between the portfolio base item and the breadcrumb.
Basically I have a ‘page’ with a portfolio category grid in it. When clicking on as portfolio item in the grid it takes me
to the portfolio item. In the breadcrumb the link is correct (home/page/portfolioitem) but in the url it is different because it includes the
portfolio base (which I set) and then the portfolio item. So, when using the url to go back (i.e deleting the part to the portfolio base) I just get a 404 error. Is this any way to change this so the URL and breadcrumb are the same, just to avoid confusion.
Thanks
Andrew

Just wondering why I need a plugin?

March 20, 2014 at 2:28 am #240445I initially recommended that plugin because i though you wanted to have more control over the permalinks, but it appears your issue is different, are you using the latest version of Enfold? can you post a link to your website?
Sorry for the confusion,

What do you have set for your portfolio prefix slug?

DevinMarch 21, 2014 at 10:08 pm #241393Hello,
It doesn’t matter what I set it to. The actual breadcrumb link is OK but the URL lists the portfolio base then the portfolio page. When back linking to the portfolio page in the URL there is no such page. The breadcrumb link works though. Just seems very confusing from a user point of view. I guess I could use a redirect but am not really sure why I would need to.
Thanks
Andrew
March 24, 2014 at 7:25 pm #242282When trying to solve a support request we typically ask questions that have answer which then can influence our ability to provide a solution to the main issue.
Permalinks in WordPress are a bit messy and understanding exactly how you have things set up can help provide an answer. If you’d like to diagnose it or modify the custom post type yourself you can read the codex entry here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Post_Types

You can use the Yoast SEO plugin to configure the url for the post type portfolio. Refer to this link: https://yoast.com/articles/wordpress-seo/#wpseo-plugin-titles
Cheers!
IsmaelMarch 25, 2014 at 2:58 pm #242745Hello and thanks for the reply.
I think there is some confusion here as to what I am asking. I don’t want to change page titles etc (I already use yoast on another site and know it’s configuration settings quite well). Basically I need to know why the portfolio base is different from the breadcrumb link and why the portfolio base returns a 404 error. As advised in a previous entry to this post, I don’t mind if I have to use a redirect as long as I know this wont cause a problem and also why this is a problem?
Thanks
Andrew

The way you are describing the links is how custom post types work within the theme settings.
