Hi All,
I am struggling to get my permalink structure right. I want it to be http://www.website.com/blog-title/article-title. My blog is a page I created, so not the default wordpress blog page. I used the Custom Permalinks plugin but noticed after a little while that it is not compatible with WordPress SEO by Yoast, it had all pages saying the keyword was not in the URL when it clearly was. Once I deactivated it started saying they were in the URL again but now my custom structure is gone, therefore all my share links for my blogs posts so far are now going to lead to my 404 error page. I just want to be sure my website structure and hierarchy are good for Google and other search engines.
I use Enfold without a child theme and I am hoping not to have to mess with the code.
Please help, thanks!
I have posted about this before but the topic is now closed > #456915
July 9, 2015 at 1:55 pm #470844Hi,
Seems to be more of a conflict between those two plugins, can you please check if the issue persists with the default WordPress theme activated?

It is the plugins for sure, when I disabled the permalinks plugin the problem with SEO Yoast stopped. I will not be reactivating it. Is there another plugin I can use or another way to get the permalink structure I want? Currently my blog URLs are formatted like http://www.website.com/article-title but i want http://www.website.com/blog-title/article-title
http://www.mindscope.com is the website.Thanks,
Mary

Try creating a Page for your blog index and set it here – http://screencast.com/t/T1vxGUoJ

I have an index page I created for my blog, it can be seen here > http://www.mindscope.com/mindscope-recruiting-and-staffing-blog/ . I tried to set that page as the blog when I first set it up but it changes my blog layout, so I set it back to no page for the blog. Is there a way to preserve my formatting?
Thanks,
Mary

Thanks so much! It worked :)
Now how does that impact my permalinks structure? I noticed that the permalinks on the posts are still the same, without the blog name.Again, thanks for all your help!

Try the following in Settings > Permalink – http://screencast.com/t/jTjjhN4MgsW

JosueJuly 10, 2015 at 4:13 pm #471564Hi Josue,
That looks like it could be my solution but quick question and little more explanation before I go ahead with it: I have posts that are not blogs, for example press releases and resources that I would ideally like to have permalinks formatted with their own parent pages int he permalink not the blog title. Press Release Index page http://www.mindscope.com/company/news-and-press-releases/ and an individual press release http://www.mindscope.com/mindscope-cura-version-6-is-here-with-vastly-improved-recruitment-crm-capabilities/. I currently use categories to make them display where I need them. I thought I could use those in the permalinks but it wouldn’t solve the whole problem because as in the press release page there are two extensions I need before the press release title /company/news-and-press-releases/. Ultimately this all steams from my goal to improve google rankings and the user experience and I feel like having a proper site hierarchy would help.
Thanks!

July 10, 2015 at 5:30 pm #471634In that case you could use the following format:
/%category%/%postname%

As I mentioned above, I thought I could use the categories in the permalinks but it wouldn’t solve the whole problem because for example, on the press releases there are two extensions I need before the press release title /company/news-and-press-releases/. I am starting to feel like what I need is not possible with WordPress which is pretty disappointing. Is there anyway you guys can add a feature to make a page the parent of a post? I feel like that would solve all my issues.
Thanks!
July 11, 2015 at 2:23 pm #471856Hi!
I’m afraid that’s not something that competes to the theme to implement, it would be more of a native WP functionality or a plugin.

So really there is no way to get the site to have a proper hierarchy with permalinks that show it? I can only index the pages so google understands? You mentioned that in my other thread on this issue > https://kriesi.at/support/topic/permalinks-structure/
Thank you for all your help!

July 13, 2015 at 10:05 pm #472693Yea that’s was more of a SEO fix in case you decided to go with 301 redirection.

JosueJuly 13, 2015 at 10:12 pm #472696Hi Josue,
Okay thanks. I think I will just leave it as is for now. Hopefully WordPress itself will address the issue in an update soon.
Thanks,
Mary
