Open in a new tab for portfolio entries

I’m fairly new to this. So I was surprised to see a very important functionality missing. All I want to do is open in a new tab for portfolio entries. I thought it would be as simple as selecting a box. But no, I couldn’t find it, so I googled ‘open in a new tab for portfolio entries in enfold’ and I came across heaps of hacks. All of them suggested me to tweak a php file. However, I don’t know php. Besides, why should I? The whole idea is for me to be able to do so very simply. I read that I had to add a code in functions.php. where and how?
