Hello-
I have been running Enfold for several years with no problems sharing pages to Facebook and having the open graph data show up just fine… including photo, description, etc. However since the last update, it shows up fine for other social media (e.g. Google plus) but does not work with Facebook. When I use the Facebook url debugger here:
https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/the open graph data for pages such as http://www.thomashenthorne.com/78-southern-heights-blvd/ shows no description even if you click “scrape again”… this is an old page that previously had posted / scraped just fine. When I post this page to Google plus it looks fine with all the open graph data.
There are no new plugins so it’s not that, and I tried rolling back Yoast to an earlier version with no success.
ONE POTENTIAL CLUE: The Facebook url scraper said something about an API that was “deprecated” early April which was when this issue started. I am wondering if that change somehow affected how Enfold and Facebook get along?
Thanks for your help!!
RobApril 10, 2017 at 8:55 pm #775634Hey goldengate415,
I checked the link you provided and the og is working fine.
However, the og is empty for the homepage. Please use a plugin like https://wordpress.org/plugins/opengraph/ and let us know if that makes any difference.Best regards,
VinayApril 10, 2017 at 9:05 pm #775646Hi Vinay! Long time no see on here. Thanks for your help.
Actually if you go to the facebook url scraper (link in my original post) and enter that url, you see the photo but if you look at og:description, it is blank. Even though I am using Yoast SEO and have a description on that page.. and if you look at the page code (ctrl-u on chrome) there is a meta description tag showing.I installed an Open Graph plugin but received an error warning from Yoast that Yoast provides Open Graph, so deleted the plugin.
I don’t know if this is Yoast, Enfold, or something else, and the Open Graph data is working fine for other social media sharing.
Any other ideas?
April 10, 2017 at 10:54 pm #775699Hi!
1. Go to http://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug
2. Enter the URL following by fbrefresh=CAN_BE_ANYTHINGExamples:
http://www.example.com?fbrefresh=CAN_BE_ANYTHING
http://www.example.com?postid=1234&fbrefresh=CAN_BE_ANYTHING
OR visit: http://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/og/object?q=http://www.example.com/?p=3568&fbrefresh=89127348912Facebook saves your cache so please try that way, it removes your cache of the page and it might get it fixed.
Best regards,
BasilisApril 11, 2017 at 4:41 am #775767Thanks for the suggestion, but that didn’t work. You can actually empty the Facebook share cache by just clicking the “scrape again” button the url debugger. OG: description is still showing blank for that example page I listed in my first post.
Perhaps this is a Yoast bug affecting a relatively small number of people? I appreciate your trying to help but I’m guessing we have come to the end of suggestions on this one?
Thanks much,
robApril 11, 2017 at 8:54 am #775883Hey!
Only last thing I could think of, is to clear the site cache if it might be triggering something od there – or manual change the meta through YOAST to see if changing something could help
Best regards,
BasilisApril 11, 2017 at 4:58 pm #776186I tried that and it didn’t fix it but thanks so much. I would say at this point ok to close this ticket but maybe you guys can keep it on your RADAR in case other Enfolders start to experience the same issue.
Thanks!
Rob
