Hi, I’m sorry to ask what I’m sure is an idiotically simple question, but I can’t seem to get a comments section to appear under my blogposts. I’ve tried checking the proper boxes on the discussion settings page, but that doesn’t seem to help. Sorry to be so obtuse, but I’m really not sure what I’m doing wrong.
Thanks
June 24, 2015 at 8:17 pm #464297Hi sijh!
Are you using the advanced layout builder? If so then you’ll need to drag the comments element to your content.
If you want your posts to display as regular blog posts then you’ll need to use the default editor.
Cheers!
ElliottJune 25, 2015 at 5:35 pm #464624Dear Elliot,
Thank you for your email. I’m afraid my ignorance of computers is quite impressively profound. I’ve struggled on for a couple of months now trying to follow the bits and pieces of advice I read on the threads here and in other places, but with this problem I really could find no alternative but to ask someone for help.
All this is by way of apologising for the fact that although I’ve tried following your advice, I’ve almost certainly done it incorrectly because I still can’t see any comment boxes. I’d settle for boxes on either the frontpage or the individual posts or both, but I’d really like to have them somewhere. I hope you don’t mind if I just confirm what I should do. Here are the things I’ve tried up to this point. I’m sorry to go into excruciating detail, but I’m not sure what’s important and what isn’t.
SETTINGS
I have gone to the Settings and put a check against “Allow people to post comments on new articles” and “anyone can post a comment”.FRONTPAGE
My frontpage is called Scribblings and as you suspected was made using the Advanced Layout Builder. I tried to follow your advice by going into the Edit Page for scribblings, taking the box marked “Comments” from the “Contents Elements” section of Avia Layout Builder and dragging it into place. I tried putting it in various places, both inside a layout element, and when that didn’t seem to do anything, outside a layout element. At the moment I have it tucked under a “blog posts” content element inside a layout element, but I still have nothing to show for it.Since that didn’t work out quite as well as I’d hoped, I moved to the second point you made about using the default editor if I wanted my posts to display as “regular posts”. To be honest, I’m not entirely sure what the difference is between the regular blog posts you mention and the way my blog post have appeared up to now. Nevertheless, I thought I should give the default editor thing a go. Unfortunately, I wasn’t entirely sure what using the default editor actually entails, so I just gave the button marked “default editor” a hopeful push and kept my fingers crossed that it would do something. Unfortunately, when I went back to look at the Scribblings page the main thing that had happened was that all my posts had disappeared. There is obviously more to default editing than what I’m doing.
INDIVIDUAL POSTS
Since I wasn’t having much luck with the Scribblings page, I went to the “Edit Post” page for the individual posts. I thought perhaps there might be a content element called “Comments” or something that I could add underneath the text of the post, but there didn’t seem to be.I apologise for going into this much detail, but sadly I’m really not exaggerating for effect or just being modest when I say I have almost no idea what I’m doing. I think you really may have to explain to me like you would a child. The only thing I will say in my defence is that my complete lack of knowledge is why I chose the Enfold theme in the first place. I was told that it was one of the easiest themes to use, looked good and had great support, which has certainly been the case so far.
Thanks again and sorry for rewriting War and Peace.
