Hello! I’ve setup a gorgeous (thank you, Enfold!) one-page site. The menu at the top of the main page contains anchor links to parts of the page below. It works great on the main/one-page.
The problem? I have several portfolio items, pages, & the blog that are separate from the one-page main site. I need to use a menu that will link appropriately back to the main/one-page. Make sense? Help?

I’m using a Enfold Child Theme. Thanks in advance for your help!

March 15, 2015 at 8:28 pm #411742Hey Irja!
when I am on your blog page, there is already a menu and when I click “Home” I come back to your one-page main site. So what do you mean? Everything seems fine for me.
Cheers!

That’s right… the HOME link works, but all the other links are effectively rendered dead, as they are anchor links to points on the main/one-page. Does that make sense?
That’s why I’m hoping to add an alternate menu to all pages except the main/one-page site. Help?
Thanks!

Include the full URL plus the anchor name. For example:
http://swaddlephotography.com/#raves
instead of just “#raves”.

IsmaelMarch 17, 2015 at 8:38 pm #413205Hi Ismael,
Thanks for the idea. While that seems like a good solution, it makes for clunky use on the main/one page. Instead of just jumping down smoothly from the menu, the whole page reloads and often (half the time) doesn’t land at the right part of the page. Likewise, if on a tablet or phone, the anchor link alone works, but the longer version does not (it simply reloads the page to the top).
So, again, I’m hoping to add an alternate menu to all pages except the main/one-page site. Can anyone help with an alternate menu? Thanks.

Could you please provide us admin access so we can have a deeper look? pot login details here as private reply. In the meanwhile please deactivate all plugins and check if that help.
What exactly do you want to achieve with an alternate menu? you could use on of these plugins for it:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/zen-menu-logic/
https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/if-menu
https://wordpress.org/plugins/menu-items-visibility-control/Cheers!

The site won’t reload when you add the absolute url if you’re on the actual page. Please try it. Right now, only the anchor name is set.
EDITED: I tried to activate the second menu with the absolute urls and it’s not working as it should. Did you add any custom modifications on the theme?
Best regards,
IsmaelMarch 21, 2015 at 6:27 am #415648Hi there,
Thanks for working on this. I’m not so good at customizing on my own, so I’m pretty sure that the only current customization was Raleway as font option. However, that was only done recently. The absolute URLs have always prompted the page to reload (long before Raleway was added), which is what prompted me to switch to anchor links.
That said, in case it’s helpful info(?), at some point I had added code to remove certain background images on mobile devices and added my own pinterest button, but all of that has since been overwritten by an update (which is what prompted a switch to a child theme). I haven’t yet taken the time to re-customize those features.
Thanks again,

Hmm, I just tested on my end and on your site but using absolute paths does not reload the page for me (except when on a separate page of course). What operating system and browser are you using?
Cheers!
ElliottMarch 25, 2015 at 3:54 am #417528Hi Elliott:
I’m using:
Mac OS 10.7.5
Chrome browser, Version 41.0.2272.104 (64-bit)I’ve activated the menu with absolute links. As before, the entire page reloads when the links are clicked, rather than simply scrolling to the anchor point on the page. This is only a mere annoyance/not clean when used on a desktop browser. However, on mobile devices & tablets, it’s disastrous, as the links will only reload the top of the page and not jump to the anchor point. That discovery is what prompted me to switch to anchor links only (which work beautifully on mobile) in the menu, and request code for a secondary menu for all pages except the main/one-page site.
Does that make sense? If it’s not possible to have two separate menus, just tell me.

Well that is expected on mobiles. It should be working fine on Desktops though.
Go ahead and try one of the plugins Andy linked to, https://wordpress.org/plugins/zen-menu-logic/, to change the menu for that specific page and just use absolute paths on your other pages.
Cheers!
