EDIT – UPDATE 5/23: I finally figured this out – it was unclosed HTML tags. I noticed that the only changes that weren’t saving fell beneath a specific element. Once I replaced that element, things started saving again.
EDIT – UPDATE 5/23: I am having the same problem again. It will NOT save my changes. I do not know why.
EDIT – UPDATE 5/22: I worked with WPEngine support and they downgraded the WP core to a previous version. That seemed to fix it. But, Enfold team, that might be something you want to look into…
I was editing my homepage on the site and clicked Update. It seemed to save fine but when I viewed the page, half of the content was gone. I went back and just copied a random element. It appeared when I saved. So, I re-did my edits, adding back all the content. Again, the new content was wiped away when I hit Update.
I updated WordPress, the theme and all the plugins yesterday. Everything seemed to be working fine.
When this started happening, I cleared my WP cache and it still happened. Also, I used another browser to see if my browser was the problem. Didn’t help.
How is this happening?

(03:14:14) Kara F: Hi there, How can I assist you today?
(03:14:21) Farrah Haidar: Hi, Kara – I spoke to someone yesterday about my changes not saving.
(03:14:33) Farrah Haidar: They helped me resolve the issue temporarily but it’s back.
(03:14:57) Farrah Haidar: Basically, I edited a page. Hit Update and all of my changes are immediately wiped
(03:15:55) Kara F: Let me take a look at your chat from yesterday
(03:17:26) Kara F: can I get your site name?
(03:17:38) Farrah Haidar: sure- http://sevensisstage.wpengine.com
(03:25:07) Kara F: hmm so it will let you update but the changes will not change?
(03:25:30) Farrah Haidar: yes, they will be completely wiped, not appearing on the backend either
(03:26:17) Kara F: I am not seeing any changes and yesterday the wordpress was downgraded. So that cant be it anymore, can we try disabling plugins?
(03:28:05) Farrah Haidar: Sure -it’s a staging site.
(03:31:49) Kara F: Can you try to edit?
(03:32:02) Farrah Haidar: ok, just a sec
(03:38:00) Farrah Haidar: Ok, so it worked for about three saves and then it stopped working, wiped everything again.
(03:40:53) Kara F: Oh man, hmm. By any chance are you using classic editor?
(03:43:54) Farrah Haidar: No, the theme uses the Avia layout and I was using the Classic plugin to revert everything back to pre-Gutenberg
(03:44:09) Farrah Haidar: But, wait, when you turned off the plug-ins, my layout changed.
(03:44:15) Farrah Haidar: I mean the editor layout
(03:44:32) Farrah Haidar: Maybe I don’t need the Classic plug-in anymore
(03:46:22) Kara F: we can try just disabling that one?
(03:46:27) Farrah Haidar: yes
(03:46:43) Kara F: one moment
(03:49:33) Kara F: okay, done.
(03:51:02) Farrah Haidar: just a minute
(03:54:47) Farrah Haidar: Ok, so I edited it and added a text element. It worked. Then I added a button and it got wiped again.
(03:56:04) Kara F: Hmm, give me just a minute farrah I am going to get another tech on this chat so I can get another fresh set of eyes on this.
(03:56:20) Farrah Haidar: ok
(03:57:47) Farrah Haidar: I don’t know if this helps but I keep getting this error too: “There is an autosave of this post that is more recent than the version below.View the autosave”
(03:58:32) *** Kara F has transferred chat to SMB Chat Escalation ***
(03:58:47) *** Gary Singer joined the chat ***
(03:58:56) Farrah Haidar: Could it be the way it is saving drafts? That would explain the “it works for a few times” and then stops. It’s restoring an older draft of the page.
(03:59:13) Gary Singer: Hi Farrah, let me review my notes to see where we are at
(03:59:28) Farrah Haidar: ok
(04:02:13) Gary Singer: Logging into the backend now to replicate the issue on my end
(04:02:17) Farrah Haidar: ok
(04:04:45) Gary Singer: Alrighty, so the issue is that you are making changes on the backend of the site, and every so often the changes don’t get applied and get reset, correct?
(04:04:54) Gary Singer: And from what I’m seeing you are using a page builder from the theme?
(04:05:05) Farrah Haidar: Yes to both questions
(04:05:41) Gary Singer: Okay, so what I”m going to do in this case is isolate the site to just the theme, basically stop all plugins from loading. Have you test from there to see if the issue is coming directly from the theme and the editor, or if it’s an issue with some other plugin that is interfering
(04:06:06) Farrah Haidar: Ok, we did turn off all plugins and it still happened
(04:06:33) Gary Singer: So it seems to be tied directly to the theme itself, I’m not seeing any caching headers in the .htaccess and no errors in the logs
(04:06:34) Gary Singer: Let
(04:06:42) Gary Singer: Let’s have you try a few more times and see if the issue occurs again
(04:06:46) Farrah Haidar: ok
(04:07:00) Farrah Haidar: should we try turning off the auto-save in wp
(04:09:16) Gary Singer: revisions should be off by default, we can just set a very long auto-save interval in the wp-config.php file
(04:09:18) Gary Singer: let me set that for you
(04:10:26) Gary Singer: Okay, refresh the page and try again , the auto-save interval is set to 24 hours
(04:10:43) Farrah Haidar: Ok, just did a first edit – it worked.
(04:10:46) Farrah Haidar: Now, let’s try this again
(04:11:15) Farrah Haidar: And it’s wipred
(04:11:17) Farrah Haidar: Gone
(04:12:02) Gary Singer: Yup, so it seems to be an issue directly with the theme itself, there isn’t anything else on the server side that would wipe those changes. Let me verify the core files to rule out that as an issue and see if there are any processes that are being killed on the server side to double check
(04:12:16) Farrah Haidar: ok
(04:16:25) Gary Singer: Core files look good, nothing is being killed by the server either, and no errors in the logs. The next step may be to manually re-install the theme , if that doesn’t work, you may need to reach out to the theme developer to see if this is a known issue and how to resolve it
(04:16:48) Farrah Haidar: I am going to install an older version of the theme that was working until the developer can figure this out.
(04:16:51) Farrah Haidar: Thank you for all the help.
(04:17:01) Farrah Haidar: can you re-set my autosave time?
(04:17:07) Farrah Haidar: And run a back-up real quick?
(04:17:12) Gary Singer: Yup, can do
(04:17:47) Gary Singer: auto-save is reset and the backup is done
(04:17:52) Farrah Haidar: Thank you again.
(04:18:00) Gary Singer: Anytime! Have a great rest of your day!
(04:18:06) Farrah Haidar: you too

May 23, 2019 at 12:30 am #1103489Having the same or similar issue on 2 different sites using Enfold.
When I save a draft, the refreshed page on the backend does not show the newly added content.
For example, I’ll create a page or post and add text content, then click save draft. Yet when the browser refreshes, all content I just added has disappeared.
This issue has only happened within the last couple of weeks using Enfold Child Theme 4.5.6 with WordPress 5.2 & Enfold Child Theme 4.5.3 with WordPress 5.2.1.
Thanks.
May 24, 2019 at 1:43 am #1103829Just FYI – I found the solution. I had unclosed HTML tags and it was deleting everything after that tag.
