Hi there,
Recently took over site management with the Enfold child and parent themes. I have a two-fold issue:
1) The current live site is running v4.1.2 on the latest WordPress install, but I am missing the whole of the left hand menu in the theme customisation area.
2) If I upgrade to the latest version v4.7.6.4, on my dev environment all is well and it works, but on live it generates a syntax error and the whole website stop working.I’m thinking there’s a config issue between live and dev, but I can’t narrow it down. Any ideas on where to start please?
Thanks
Rob

Could you try to be a bit more specific on the error you are getting? Did you try to upload the new version of the theme to a separate (for example enfold_new) folder via FTP, and activate it after that?
Best regards,

Thanks for the response. I’ve uploaded the updated parent theme via FTP and renamed the folder, keeping the old one as a back up. When I rename the new one to “enfold” the site generates a generic WordPress error that says: “There has been a critical error on your website” and nothing else renders. Renaming the folders back to the original, the site starts working again.
The admin system emails me this error:
Error Details ============= An error of type E_ERROR was caused in line 8 of the file /home/storm/sites/alison-taylor-com/public/wp-content/themes/enfold/config-templatebuilder/avia-shortcodes/events_countdown.php. Error message: Cannot redeclare av_countdown_events_fallback() (previously declared in /home/storm/sites/alison-taylor-com/public/wp-content/themes/enfold/config-templatebuilder/avia-shortcodes/events_countdown/events_countdown.php:16)
Am loathed to activate the new parent theme in case that throws the same error and I can’t recover it.

We can try to update the theme for you. Please share FTP login details in private and verify that you have backups of the site.

I think I’ve fixed it. Just as a hunch, so I deleted the old “Enfold” folder and re-imported it direct from the theme download zip. All seems to works fine now. Thanks for your help and sorry to have waited you time :)
