Media not showing in upload folder

Probably a common problem this but I have just moved an Enfold site from my development hosting to the customers own hosting. Everything is great except that when I upload media the process completes but the image does not appear in the media list – just the name of the file. So instead of seeing the actual image I see the words clock.png.
When I look in the uploads directory for this month the file is not there!
Any files uploaded on the development hosting before the move are there.
