I followed the recommendation and created a child theme; at first without any changes to the two files style.css and functions.php downloaded from documentation.
[I did not “Import Parent Theme Settings” and set all the settings manually.]
All required changes were applied to the theme and all seemed to work fine.
But one behaviour seems to be an error: wheny trying to load an image through media library, the images dont show.
But the images are visible when using the media manager in list view. When switching back to the original enfold theme this error disapears.
So in my installation it ist not possible to use a child theme.
What can be done to make the child theme usable?

June 19, 2017 at 6:15 am #809656Hey ffiala,
Thanks for the login details. Could you try updating the theme to the latest version (4.0.7) to see if that helps please? http://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/updating-your-theme-files/
If that doesn’t help then please try to deactivate all plugins to see if one of them is causing a conflict.
Best regards,
RikardJune 19, 2017 at 8:10 am #809674The deactivation of all plugins did not help.
The currently installes version when downloading fromt themeforest is 4.0.2
Filename: themeforest-4519990-enfold-responsive-multipurpose-theme-wordpress-themeI filled in the username and key fpr automatic updates and wait now for 24 hours and inform you tomorrow if the update helped.
Thank You, FranzJune 19, 2017 at 1:42 pm #809763Hi Franz,
That is not correct, if you download the theme from Themeforest then you should get 4.0.7. Could you try to download it again and check the version maybe? The automatic update should work if you have filled out the correct details, so you might want to try to update that way too.

RikardJune 19, 2017 at 2:00 pm #809772Hi Ricard!
You are right!
I downloaded the newest enfold-version from themeforest, installed it and the theme menu shows now the newest version 4.0.7.
And the images are shown correctly when switching to the theme itself.
But when applying the (empty) childtheme images still dont load in grid view.
Thank You, FranzJune 19, 2017 at 2:12 pm #809774what do you mean by : when trying to load an image through media library, the images dont show
the image is not viewed as an image instead you got a blank icon – or is it completely not seen?June 19, 2017 at 3:36 pm #809825Example: When inserting an image in the editor using “Insert” -> “Add Media” we see the grid view of the media gallery and can choose one of images shown (or alternatively we can upload an image).
When using the enfolf theme this works as expected,
But with the enfold child thene – i named it “enfold fiala” – the hour glass does not stop spinning and the area where the images should be displayed stays empfty. When unsing the media manager, you can switch between list view and grid view. List view works es expected but grid view shows the same behaviour like “Add Media”.

Thanks for the feedback, could you try to download the child theme from here and try that instead please? http://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/downloads/

RikardJune 20, 2017 at 7:37 am #810216Hi Ricard, I downloaded the file enfold-child.zip but at this moment these files seem corrupted.
1. the filenames start with “.-”
2. when looking at the content of the .php-files these contain binary content.. Readable “Mac OS X” and “com.apple.Text.enconding”
3. The image .-screenshot.png cannot be displayed (error).
This may be an error after actualization because during my former experiments i also downloaded the files from this address and they were error free.
Thank You, FranzJune 20, 2017 at 9:45 am #810253these files are allways set by OSX (Unix/Linux based) and are usually configuration files or folders.
you don’t need to upload them – but there has to be the pendents without the dot infront of it ( by the way – this is the normal way to hide files and folders from beeing displayed – similar f.e. to the .htaccess file in the root of a wordpress site.you only need to upload the folder and in it three files: functions.php (nearly empty) , style.css, and screenshot.png
I think you are now on a windows machine where you have set the explorer to show hidden files.
(you can switch off that behavior on Explorer window / Extras / folder options – goto maybe it is view (on German it is Ansicht) – Files and Folders – Hidden Files and Folders and mark here hide hidden files and folders )- This reply was modified 7 years, 6 months ago by Guenni007.
