Since the update I have massive problems on a client website using WPML and enfold. The full page slider and several other avia elements doesn’t load anymore. Only on the english version. I allready deactivated other PlugIns and deleted all caches. I also deactivated the css and js aggregation. Nothing helps. There are avia element JS errors in the console. See page link in private content.

Any news on that? My Client is getting a bit nervous.
Thanks a lot for your help in advance.

    #983232

Hey, thanks for the two files on git. Where are the files located within Enfold? I can’t find them.

    #983239

    Hi convecto,

The files are located in this folder
    /enfold/config-templatebuilder/avia-shortcodes/

    This is the logoslider path

    /enfold/config-templatebuilder/avia-shortcodes/logoslider/logoslider.php

If you need further assistance please let us know.
    Best regards,
    Victoria

    Hi Victoria,

thanks a lot. I replaced the two php files but can’t see any effect on the website. Images are still not there.

    Best Regards, Julian

    #983285

    Hi Julian,

Actually, it’s the masonry that is missing, the div for it is there but it is empty.

Which version of php are you running?

    Best regards,
    Victoria

    #983308

    The PHP Version is 7.1.13.

    Hi,

Thank you for using Enfold – and sorry for the problems.
WPML must have changed a lot in the implementation of translating images – this seems to break our logic.

Can you confirm, that these problem also started with updateing of WPML ?

I have tried to find a solution.

As a first step can you please update the following files:

    config-templatebuilder\avia-shortcodes\catalogue\catalogue.php with
    https://github.com/KriesiMedia/enfold-library/blob/master/temp_fixes/Enfold_4_4_1/catalogue.php

    config-templatebuilder\avia-shortcodes\image\image.php with
    https://github.com/KriesiMedia/enfold-library/blob/master/temp_fixes/Enfold_4_4_1/image.php

    config-templatebuilder\avia-shortcodes\image_hotspots\image_hotspots.php with
    https://github.com/KriesiMedia/enfold-library/blob/master/temp_fixes/Enfold_4_4_1/image_hotspots.php

    config-templatebuilder\avia-shortcodes\logoslider\logoslider.php with
    https://github.com/KriesiMedia/enfold-library/blob/master/temp_fixes/Enfold_4_4_1/logoslider.php

    config-templatebuilder\avia-shortcodes\section.php with
    https://github.com/KriesiMedia/enfold-library/blob/master/temp_fixes/Enfold_4_4_1/section.php

    config-templatebuilder\avia-shortcodes\timeline\timeline.php with
    https://github.com/KriesiMedia/enfold-library/blob/master/temp_fixes/Enfold_4_4_1/timeline.php

Do not forget to make a backup of the original files for a fallback and that you have updated to Enfold 4.4.1.

Then you need to translate all images that you use in Enfold Layout builder elements – you can run a WPML update routine (see link in private content):

Goto Dashboard -> WPML -> Settings and “Media Translation” at the bottom.
There you find “Media Translation Documentation” and a button “Start”. Leave all checkboxes checked.

If you need a more specific translation of images (or do not want to translate all images) I would recommend to use the WPML Media Translation plugin (https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/media-translation/).

As far as I could test on my install this should fix the problem.

    Best regards,
    Günter

    Hello, Günter,

thanks first of all for the great support! I did all the actions as described. When I try to start Media Translation under WPML > Settings, I get to a white page and the action doesn’t seem to work.

I see no change on the page itself. In the meantime I got the tip from WPML Support to deactivate the PlugIn “Post Types Order”. At least the slider on the start page and the logoslider shows again after that. Now I still have the problem with the display of the products on the english “Products” page.

Do you have an idea why WPML Media Translation does not work? WPML support has no idea at all.

    Best regards, Julian

    #985969

    Hi Julian,

    Thanks for the feedback.

I’m not a WPML expert – all I figured out was by trying to get it run on my dev servers.

The only idea I have is to check if it is really only the translation routine or some other problem (maybe WPML related) because we have another user with such a strange behaviour.

I created (and deleted again) a testpage to see if something changes with a new page – negativ. I do not want to mess around too much in your site.

Step 1: Can you upload a few new images and create a new page with a few elements like masonry, image, logoslider and translate this page and see if the problem still occurs (also add some textelements like textblock, special heading)

Step 2: Dectivate all plugins except WPML plugins and try to translate the images again without any other plugins active and check.

Step 3 would be to activate the “WPML Media Translation plugin” (if you have access to it – maybe WPML guys will give you access for testing purpose) and manually translate the images and check if this helps.

Sorry for the inconvenience but it is the only way to narrow down the problem.

    Best regards,
    Günter

    #985978

    Hi,

Update: I opened a ticket at WPML (see link in private content) – can you add this to your ticket ?
    Thx.

    Best regards,
    Günter

    #986026

Okay, I once deactivated all plugins and the WPML-Assistant actually ran through once. After that the english products were back again, but in German language version. I have now simply put my duplicated images back into the english gallery, because I don’t want to install an additional media translation WPML module because of 9 photos.

I also created a test page (see private link). This page is not visible in the navigation. Here I have added the modules you recommended. When I translate the page, all modules on the English page are gone. Also headline and text. It looks like the current WPML version is no longer compatible with Enfold. You can test it yourself on this page.

    Best regards, Julian

    Hi,

There seems to be a core problem in WPML. I’ve been in touch with them and they say there should be a fix in the next update.

Could you please get in touch with the guy (see in private content) who is in charge of compatibility at WPML and report the problem to him and give him access to your site so he can check everything.

Maybe he can check the fix ?

    Thank you for your cooperation.

    Best regards,
    Günter

    #986956

    Hello, Günter,

thanks again for your super help! We really appreciate it. I’ll e-mail WPML later this week. I’ll clone the site again, because I don’t want more people working on the live system.

We had so many problems with WPML in particular last year that we are considering not using the tool at all in the future. Our customers also have difficulty with the complicated usability and we find it increasingly confusing with every update. Do you have information about alternatives for the Enfold Theme? I tested Polylang once, but I encountered problems with Enfold when it comes to string translation. I have no information about Locco Translate.

Are there plans to support another (usable) PlugIn at Enfold in the future?

    Best Regards, Julian

    #990390

    Hi,

Julian one of the best and easiest ways, is to consider running multiple installations of enfold.
AS it is the same theme, your database configurations etc are the same, you simple copy paste any CSS changes and your client just updates the text.

Happy to help with anything else.

    Best regards,
    Basilis

    #990661

    Hi Basilis,

sorry, we need “real” translation. We are using the theme for big clients. As much as we appreciate the theme, now we have to look for a theme that supports some translation plug-in for further projects.

I don’t understand that Enfold and WPML have no interest in solving the problem.

See private section for additional message!

    Best Regards, Julian

    Hi Julian,

We keep improving Enfold and OnTheGoSystems keeps improving WPML. Even though the theme and plugin are officially compatible, after major releases such compatibility issues may occur.
Obviously some issues take a little longer to solve but our developers keep in touch to solve them for our mutual customers. Sorry if it seemed like we are unwilling to help in the meantime but this is definitely not the case.

That being said, I checked your test page and translations seem to work fine on my end and elements are not lost on translated page. Attached a screenshot in private content field.

I checked your product pages on both languages and they work fine as well.

Issue was resolved for fellow Enfold user Zarlekin and WPML developers confirmed Günter’s fix does work. I checked your thread on WPML’s support forum for any updates but currently your thread has not received a reply yet.

Could you please let us know if issue was resolved for you as well and if not, could you please point out remaining issues you are experiencing?

    Best regards,
    Yigit

    #992074

The issue is not resolved at all!

On some of our websites we just used dirty hacks to show the images again. We used manual translation and duplicated page elements.

See for example our own website where still (after updating all php files from Günter) no logos can be shown on the english version of the page “clients”.

The problem is still there also on ALL our other websites too. After translation no Enfold image elements are shown on the translated page.

    #992424

    Hi,

Sorry you are having that much problems.
WPML told me that the problem should be fixed and also a user having problems reported it solved.

I once again checked the logo element on my dev install and it works for me.

It might be some WPML setting – can you please contact the WPML compatibility guy (e-mail in private content) and give him access to your site with the problem so he can check it.

If you give me your e-mail I can send you the version of Enfold containing all the WPML fixes that you are up to date with the version WPML tested.

    Best regards,
    Günter

    #992455

    Hi Günter,

I had contact to WPML before and everybody says that it has been solved. That’s definitely not the case. Some WPML guys hacked around in our websites and “made” it work by using some manuell processes. That made it even worse!

I already deployed all new Enfold PHP files from GIT to our servers, but that brought no change. Are the new changes?

I write Ahmed again but to be honest I don’t think they take it serious.

See email is in the private section.

Thanks anyway for your support. We know it’s not easy to solve.

    cheers, Julian

    Hi Günter,

Lauren from WPML said that there is an Enfold beta 4.4.2-dev-wpml. I Guess this is the file you wanted to send to me by email, right?

Thanks again and best regards, Julian

    #992523

    Hi Julian,

It is the upcoming version of the theme which will include couple more fixes and will be released in a week or two. Beta version WPML team has is not complete and could cause issues on your site. Therefore we would recommend you to wait for stable release :)

    #993905

    Hi Julian,

    Thanks for the staging site.

    I recognised some weired things:

    1) If you add a textblock (or special heading element, … ???) at the beginning of your page WPML Test, the shortcodes disappear from the translation boxes and only the translateable elements are shown again.
    2) If you save the modified translation the added/changed elements are not always saved – current situation it was saved after some time.
    3) The translated content is not displayed at all – also not the textblock.
    ——————
    4) I added language switcher flags to footer
    5) I added a new page Enfold Support (German) with textblock and Logo element, translated it to English (Enfold Support in English) -> WORKS
    6) I modified the content a little -> translation WORKS
    7) I added a second Logo -> translation WORKS
    ———-
    8) I added a new page Enfold Support Logo (German) with only a logo element, added 3 images only (did not change any other options), saved it.
    9) Translation did show shortcode only
    10) I added a title to the logo element
    11) Translation manager showed title to translate -> translation WORKS

There still seems to be some WPML core problem.

Could you get in touch again with WPML guys so they can check your site again and tell them the above ?

I know, this is not very satisfying – but I do not see what we can do from our side at the moment.

    Best regards,
    Günter
