Hello,
My clients reached out after a few years because there form wasn’t working and in the course of looking it over I found they were still running Enfold version 3.7.1.
So I started to go through the instructions as outlined in this thread (which I have bookmarked – it’s very useful!) https://kriesi.at/support/topic/very-outdated-theme-tips-for-updating/
Unfortunately, every time I try to install theme, I am immediately sent to a 404 page.
I have tried it with both the plugin’s “make a backup” option checked and unchecked. (I use Updraft anyway.) It’s a recent version of the plugin. I am using the Enfold child theme. Am I supposed to deactivate that first?
Do you have any idea what is going wrong?
August 16, 2020 at 5:00 pm #1238203Hey Dandelion222,
Can you give us temporary admin access to your website in the private content box below, so that we can have a closer look?
Best regards,
VictoriaAugust 17, 2020 at 6:41 pm #1238591Sure. Thanks. See below.
August 19, 2020 at 6:55 am #1239026Hi,
Thanks for the login details. We can install the theme for you manually if the plugin is not working. If you need help with that then please share FTP login details in private and verify that you have backups of the site.
Best regards,
RikardAugust 19, 2020 at 4:18 pm #1239211I already did share the login details. (I do so wish the Kresi moderators would get in the habit of actually looking at the private credentials. I feels like I have to say “I already gave you the credentials” on at least 50% of my support threads.)
Yes, please update the theme if you can. Getting the theme current is the first step in troubleshooting a larger issue and it is frustrating that this “simple” step is getting dragged out.
August 20, 2020 at 7:47 am #1239465Hi,
You shared WordPress login details, not FTP. Maybe you should get into the habit of reading what we actually wrote to you?
Best regards,
RikardAugust 20, 2020 at 4:32 pm #1239574That’s fair. You are right. I apologize.
Given that the solution involved a plugin I was predisposed to think you wanted the same access to do what is outlined in the other thread. And I really would like to make the solution outlined in the article work. Especially since I will have to do some digging to get the ftp credentials, since this is a client who hasn’t reached out in a few years.
Is there not a way to help just via WordPress login?
In the meantime, I’ll see about getting those FTP details.
August 21, 2020 at 8:00 am #1239758Hi,
Thanks for the update. We can try to update using the plugin, but if that fails or goes wrong in some way then we would need FTP details as well in order to fix it. FTP is in general a safer way to update, as long as you know what you are doing. So it’s possible for you to send us FTP details, then that would be optimal. If you can’t find them then we can try the plugin out, but then we need for you to verify that you have backups of the site, in case something should go wrong during the update process.
Best regards,
RikardAugust 21, 2020 at 4:38 pm #1239816I’m torn because on the one hand I just want it updated, but on the other hand I want to know why the plugin didn’t work this time. But I’ve got the ftp connection now. See private content area.
August 23, 2020 at 1:09 am #1240014Also, yes, I’ve made backups of the website.
August 24, 2020 at 5:25 am #1240249Hi,
Thanks for the details and update. I uploaded the new version of the theme manually and activated it. Everything seems to be working as it should at first glance, but please review your site to check that everything is working as it should. Also please update WordPress to the latest version, and update your PHP version to 7.2 or higher. Also please read this on how to register your theme in order to receive automatic updates: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/theme-registration/
Best regards,
RikardAugust 24, 2020 at 4:38 pm #1240404Hi.
Everything seems to be working fine. Although my initial issue, with the form being very slow…so slow that most people just think it doesn’t work…remains.
Just to confirm, you did update it to the latest version of the theme? I know I have to update the credentials with Envato, but once I do, I should actually already be up to date with that, right?
August 24, 2020 at 5:58 pm #1240452Okay. This is updated and I updated PHP too. We can close this ticket and open a new one for the form. Because all this updating did not resolve that issue.
August 24, 2020 at 8:11 pm #1240491Hi Dandelion222,
Ok :)
We are closing the thread.
If you need further assistance please let us know in a new one.
Best regards,
