    Hi there,

I created a new website and I use a LinkedIn icon next to the main menu on the right AND in the first banner (square) in the right sidebar. But after the last update the LinkedIn icons suddenly disappeared. When I create a new one and wait a minute, the icon again disappear. I didn’t change anything on the site, so I don’t know what happened. Can you please take a look? I made a login for you in the Private Content.

Update 1: When I change the icon into for example into Instagram or Twitter, the icon will stay visible.
Update 2: It happend with all icons I used on all websites It happens when the link goes external!

    Greetings from Marcel

I found the cause and (temporary) solution to this problem.

    Hi Vingerhoets,

Thanks for the message. I just did exactly what you told above but after refreshing a “dead white screen” appears. Luckily after pasting the “old formatting.php” back via FTP, the site is working again. Pffff…

I am happy I am not the only person with this icon-issue after the update. And I will wait till the next update. I will tell the customers (again) they have to wait till the icons are back on the screen :-(

    Greeting from Marcel

@Marcel: You have to make sure that you copy the changes exactly for all lines in red except 4903. I see it worked for others, but not everyone. In any case I hope we should get an update from Kriesi soon to fix this problem.

Hi, I am sure you have the right temporary solution but it takes too much risk for me to try this on almost 15 websites. I’m afraid I will make a little mistake. So I’ll wait… Thanks again.

    Hello Kriesi,

The problem is recognized now (https://kriesi.at/support/topic/social-buttons-broken-with-wp-5-3-1-update/) and it’s now waiting for the Enfold update….

I made a temporary solution for my clients: I have also a temporary solution: I made a new page without content, called …/pagename. Then I installed a redirect plugin and redirect that page to the external url. When I change the link of the icon to the redirect page, the icon shows up again.

I will remove the account because the problem is not in my websites. I hope you can solve this problem. Thanks :-)

    Greetings Marcel

    Hi Marcel,

We’re very sorry for the problem. We’re working on a release which will fix this and it should be available by tomorrow.

    Best regards,

Hi Rikard or someone else :-),

I think the release will take a little longer? Because if it takes longer I have to make the temporary solution on all my websites. I hope hearing from you.

    Best regards,

    Marcel

    Hi Marcel,

Thanks for the update. Please refer to this: https://kriesi.at/support/topic/missing-icons-after-updating-to-wordpress-5-3-1-and-maintenance-releases/. There won’t be an official release until after the holidays. You can install the beta release if you like though, you’ll find it in private.

    Best regards,
    Rikard
