Hello. There are times when the fully-licensed version of LayerSlider is needed. I’m looking for a comprehensive guide on how to properly implement and update LayerSlider, when the paid version is implemented with Enfold. From what I’m seeing, many people would benefit from this and it would reduce support requests in the future.
If we deactivate LayerSlider via functions.php and install the standalone version, we can control the update process, but then there are issues with the Advanced Layout Builder.? What are those issues specifically? What are the pros/cons of sticking with the embedded vs. the PAID version, besides being behind in the update cycle? Listing that would help the customer determine the route that best fits their situation?
If we stay with the embedded version of LayerSlider, we are typically multiple versions behind on updates, which puts customers at a potential security risk. Also, there are times when a fix is needed that we have to wait months for. We understand that Kriesi needs time to test the LayerSlider updates. However, customers who have paid for a full license, should get more/better/easier control of the updates and updates processes when it comes to LayerSlider. Even if Kriesi needs to issue a disclaimer for updating outside of what he has tested, that is fine. That should be up for customers to decide. In the end, those who have paid of a full license will/can/should get additional support from the LayerSlider support team.
Enfold customers need more guidance on this subject. This topic comes up in Social Media outlets and the answers are rarely consistent. We need an official guide from Enfold.
Thank you,
RyanMay 6, 2017 at 5:50 pm #788869Hey accurIT,
You can use the embedded version and upgrade to the fully-licensed version, you just need to activate it with the license key you got from purchasing the standalone version. The plugin and theme version are identical codewise, however the Layerslider team decided to add a few features that are only available after entering the purchase code.Best regards,
MikeMay 6, 2017 at 5:53 pm #788870Yes, but the updates never get pulled in that way. At least I’ve never been able to get them to. LayerSlider is Activated. Going to LayerSlider > Check for updates, routes us back to the root of the WP Dashboard. Clicking “Check for updates” there, does nothing. The WP Dashboard shows there is 1 plugin update available, which is related to another LayerSlider issue that’s well documented in the support forum.
This needs to be written up. If WP pros are struggling with this, just imagine how the non-Pros struggle.
May 6, 2017 at 8:14 pm #788896Hi,
OK, I don’t have a license for my LayerSlider in my localhost Enfold, so can you tell me if this statement in the LayerSlider documentation is correct:Updating the bundled version in themes
If you’ve received LayerSlider as a bundled item in your theme, new releases will be provided by the theme author through theme updates, since Auto-Updates won’t work without activating your copy of LayerSlider. However, if you choose the purchase a license for LayerSlider, theme bundled versions can also be activated and updated without reinstalling the plugin. To me this reads that if you buy a license and enter the code in the bundled version of layerslider, it will auto update even though it does not show in the plugin area. Otherwise, for the free version, updates will be provided through theme updates.
Best regards,
MikeMay 6, 2017 at 10:52 pm #788966That may be true (or used to be), but I’m saying it doesn’t work for me and it others are reporting the same thing. I’ve included admin credentials for you to check it out for yourself.

“Normally you should be able to update the plugin the same way with the auto-update feature, more information can be found on it in the documentation: https://support.kreaturamedia.com/…/documentation.html…
However there are some cases when the theme authors change/edit the bundled version of the plugin, removing the activation/update systems for example. In this case you will need to reinstall the plugin manually first. You can also find installation instructions in the documentation. Please note that your sliders are stored in the database so they won’t be deleted.”
May 7, 2017 at 3:03 pm #789092on one installation i activated the embeded version with a license key. From this moment on i can use the library to install layerslider demos – even the premium ones – but updates are not working- they are not shown in WP dashboard – Updates.
May 7, 2017 at 3:18 pm #789095Exactly what I’m facing Guenni007. It will be interesting to see how this turns out. I understand that Enfold may get more sales by advertising LayerSlider as being included. However, from what I’m seeing//hearing, two things often happen. People skip the embedded LayerSlider altogether or they quickly jump to the PAID version in order to get security/functionality updates and access to premium templates.
In my opinion, Enfold should allow everyone (PAID and NON-PAID) to update as they wish. If we need to click a disclaimer box, I have absolutely no problem doing that.
For the PAID LayerSlider Users: We will want the latest updates at all times, except in very rare situations and we also have the LayerSlider support team to assist further.
For the NON-PAID (Embedded) LayerSlider Users: Issue a disclaimer to update at your own risk, saying the current supported embedded version is “x”.
ULTIMATE: Just unleash LayerSlider updates to ALL, as they are released by LayerSlider. I can’t imagine the issues would be anywhere close to the number of support topics opened weekly, re: LayerSlider.
May 7, 2017 at 9:35 pm #789201Hi,
Alright, I was able to login and confirm you have activated your paid version of LayerSlider, and it is not up to date. So the auto-updating is not working for you as it should, I’m asking the development team to look in to this.Best regards,

Can you please clear your transients?
and let us know if that would help you at all.

May 8, 2017 at 2:41 am #789267How LayerSlider Updates work in Enfold
The bundled version of LayerSlider will be updated with theme updates, which we do depending on our own release cycle and depending on critical updates. The users cant update the bundled version of the layerslider, even if actived.
However, if a user wishes to update before the next theme update, they can simply purchase a copy of the layerslider on codecanyon, upload it as a plugin and activate it. It will then overwrite the bundled version, and then the user is in full control of LayerSlider updates.
There is no need to deactivate the bundled version, it automatically detects if the plugin version is active and disables itself. This is our official answer on LayerSlider updates, hope is clears any confusion.
Thank you for using Enfold.May 9, 2017 at 11:27 pm #790686I just installed the standalone plugin. I’m now seeing an issue with the navigation arrows, on all browsers. Here is a screenshot.
May 13, 2017 at 1:42 pm #792696Hello. Can I get an answer on this please?
Thanks,
RyanMay 13, 2017 at 2:33 pm #792702May 13, 2017 at 2:35 pm #792703May 13, 2017 at 2:38 pm #792706Hi,
Now that you have discovered that a plugin is causing the issue, you could try contacting the plugin author for more info about the issue. Making third-party plugins compatible with the theme is unfortunately beyond the support scope we offer. Sorry for that! Thank you for using Enfold.Best regards,
MikeOctober 30, 2017 at 4:24 pm #870553Hi,
so if the theme auto-detects if the plugin is manually uploaded and upgraded with a license, does the functionality with setting up pages with the “Avia Layout Builder” and through that the “Advanced Layerslider” still work as intended, just instead it uses the newer version of LayerSlider? And are there any compatibility issues to be expected when using LayerSlider Premium on that manual route?
Thanks,
eCNovember 3, 2017 at 4:07 am #871921Hi,
Yes, you can still use the advance layout builder to insert the layer slider. However, installing the slider as a stand alone plugin doesn’t present any advantage because the theme includes the stable version of the plugin and it is usually only one version behind the latest beta version.
