Hi there,
There is currently an issue in all my WP Enfold theme sites:
LAYERSLIDER (which I NEVER use on anything) is flagging up as a plugin update, but there is nothing to update, as it’s not activated, not used, and I do not want to pay for the thing!* Is there anything you can offer to resolve this?
(other than adding code to functions.php, which means tiresome re-edits once Enfold is upgraded)
* Is it – at the very least – possible to get the latest version of LS through your update and download it to install?Regards,
StevoMarch 22, 2017 at 1:04 pm #764748I got the same issue, with the error message:
Warning: fopen(/storage/content/35/168735/wpsupport.se/public_html/wp-content/plugins/storage/content/35/168735/wpsupport.se/public_html/wp-content/themes/enfold/config-layerslider/LayerSlider/layerslider.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /storage/content/35/168735/wpsupport.se/public_html/wp-includes/functions.php on line 4783 Warning: fread() expects parameter 1 to be resource, boolean given in /storage/content/35/168735/wpsupport.se/public_html/wp-includes/functions.php on line 4786 Warning: fclose() expects parameter 1 to be resource, boolean given in /storage/content/35/168735/wpsupport.se/public_html/wp-includes/functions.php on line 4789
Is this related to the solution “http://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/missing-layerslider-images/”?
March 22, 2017 at 1:10 pm #764750Slightly different. My issue is the fact that unless Enfold provide an update to the LAYERSLIDER plugin regularly, it causes an issue when security programs (like WORDFENCE which I use) check for updates to plugins.
At present, there seems to be no LAYERSLIDER update via the ENFOLD theme, which it came with, so the WORDFENCE constantly nags saying that an update is available, but nothing shows when you try to update.
In fact, the WORDFENCE security showed as ‘updates to “” plugin‘ – in other words, blank!
Any thoughts please Kriesi and crew..?
Thank you :-)- This reply was modified 7 years, 8 months ago by Steve. Reason: spelling!
March 22, 2017 at 1:47 pm #764772Different but still the same ;-)
Also I’m using Wordfence and receives the nag. I’ve also found out that there’s no LAYSERSLIDER update yet.
March 22, 2017 at 1:55 pm #764782I am getting the same issues as well with all my sites.
In fact, the WORDFENCE security showed as ‘updates to “” plugin‘ – in other words, blank!
Need this issue fixed. Thanks!March 22, 2017 at 4:00 pm #764837Also seem to be having an issue tied to Wordfence/LayerSlider.
March 22, 2017 at 4:42 pm #764864Same here. Wordfence issue: Warnings:
* The Plugin “” needs an upgrade ( -> 6.2.0).March 22, 2017 at 5:09 pm #764893Yes it does but it seems like more folks are not providing updates for their plugins :-( I don’t care as I am not using it but I don’t like the UPDATE Needed Showing. Maybe I will just do an ftp and remove Layer Slider because I am not using it.
WRONG…it is part of the theme, so now I am afraid to touch it :-(- This reply was modified 7 years, 8 months ago by elames.
March 22, 2017 at 6:03 pm #764937March 22, 2017 Just got a security scan result saying LayerSlider is hacked. This file shows up:
http://codecanyon.net/item/layerslider-wp-the-wordpress-parallax-slider/1362246/changelog
The latest version is 6.2.0 as it says in wordpress admin.
I have version is 6.1.6 installed and yes I updated the theme as of today which is 4.0.3Question:
1 Did this update fix the security problem with LayerSlider or no?2 As it is an integrated part of the Enfold Theme, how do we fix this?
thanks.March 22, 2017 at 6:40 pm #764977kaj69 – it is the same thing, apologies!
I found the same error code/text in WF.Await a response from Kriesi & crew…
(…and YES, there are missing images for the default layouts)

March 22, 2017 at 10:02 pm #765080Just had an update from CODE CANYON stating that there is a LAYERSLIDER update
So, I guess somewhere between LAYERSLIDER & ENFOLD, an update error for the plugin occured.Where LAYERSLIDER is licensed (as I have on one of my sites) – no issues.
This only occurs where (it seems) LAYERSLIDER is dormant, or unlicensed – i.e. as is, as it came with the last time it was updated within the ENFOLD theme.I think WORDFENCE is just picking up the error.
* ENFOLD * chaps – any clues/possible update…?

March 22, 2017 at 10:19 pm #765086PS: Just updated another Layerslider-related problem feed with this:
I have just updated one of my sites to PHP 7.0, and am STILL getting this error message from a WORDFENCE scan (editied for privacy) :
wp-content/themes/enfold/config-layerslider/LayerSlider/layerslider.php): failed to open stream: No such fileFOR INFO: This Layerslider install is NOT activate or licensed – it just came with the theme’s last update.
Something is definitely amiss other than the PHP.
Can we look a little further into this please?March 22, 2017 at 10:35 pm #765089Hi!
That is mostly an error thta the team of wordfance has to solve.
We have asked the layerslider team and wordfence to take a look and try help us.We can only make sure for you that it is not hacked, as if it was Envato would remove it from codecanyon till it is fixed.
Thank you for your understanding
Cheers!
BasilisMarch 22, 2017 at 10:48 pm #765092There are many customers here that purchased the Enfold Theme, including me.
The WordFence security plugin is alerting us that the Code Canyon Layer Slider Plugin requires an update.
It is not up to the security plugin to fix this, they are alerting us that, there is a problem.Since we purchased the Enfold Theme with the Code Canyon Layer Slider as part of the theme, it needs to be corrected by Kriesi and the developer of the Layer Slider and whatever arrangements he made with the Layer Slider developer for updates.
Right now, I cannot update it at all. That option is not available in the theme itself. Now, since we have this Layer Slider as part of the theme, YOU (Kresi) should have given customers the option to remove it – if it is not necessary and if it is necessary.
If it is necessary, for the theme to function, there has to be an update for that slider for security purposes – and that comes from only you. (meaning if we remove the slider files, will that break the site, we don’t know).
Since you are selling a product with someone else’s product – your arrangements should be solid enough to include updates to every part of the theme you are selling. If this is not the case, then you should instruct the customer up front on your sales page with ENVATO and tell people that.
Further, I don’t need it myself but I would like to know how and where the slider is so I can remove it myself.
This would be the best solution to this problem as it will only get worse as time goes on.
Right now, the slider needs an update and that is critical to the security of the theme and our websites.March 23, 2017 at 9:00 am #765244Hi!
Layer slider team has pushed an update for that yesterday.
Kriesi is working to pack and release the update.
Also note that if you are in a rush, you can always buy Layer Slider and update it, it will work just fine. Please note that as already mentioned, Layer Slider does NOT require an update and there is NO critical bug / security risk.
Wordfense is an AI machine and the error they are showing is based on that.
We do not have an actual problem. In any case, kriesi will send the updated layer slide version/.
Cheers!
BasilisMarch 23, 2017 at 2:25 pm #765473Yes, but if we aren’t even using layer slider and clients still are seeing that an update is required and they can’t do anything then it is a real issue that needs solved. Too many are complaining and something must be done quickly.
Any way to just remove it if we aren’t using it?March 23, 2017 at 2:29 pm #765478elames – I think we need to wait for the Enfold update, which Basilis said they are working on…
I think that’s correct Basilis?

Thank you Basilis for your update and I do hope this fix is in Kresi’s hands
to fix it.
Your suggestion to buy Layer Slider is not a fix.I see from the support tickets over at Kreatura, who is the developer
of Layer Slider on Envato, that there own customers are asking
for a fix for this update problem.Wordpress uses changelogs to notify website owners that there is an Update,
so does Wordfence Security Plugin, so there is an update, its just not installed
and/or working and/or available to Kriesi’s customers. It appears the plugin is not updating for their own paid customers
see their support tickets here:
https://kreatura.ticksy.com/ticket/1109231/
We will wait for the update to be completed by Kreisi, hopefully very soon.Thank you for your assistance.
March 23, 2017 at 4:57 pm #765566Hey!
Our devs are currently looking into it.
If you are not using bundled LayerSlider and would like to deactivate it, please refer to this post – http://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/deactivate-the-layerslider-plugin/We will keep you updated as soon as we got some news from our devs :)
Best regards,
YigitMarch 23, 2017 at 5:18 pm #765579Thank you Yigit – that is the most sensible answer I’ve received yet. There should be an “Options Button” on the demo content installs which could have avoided this problem, this is a suggestion. I am not a coder, so I don’t want to mess with php, (as probably 90% of Kriesi customers) so it would be better to offer it as an option, not a coded part of the theme. That is all I am saying.
As far as the alerts from Wordfence Security Plugin, I am glad they alert us to issues with Updates, its part of good security practices to Update WordPress, Plugins and Themes as soon as they are available.
Let’s hope the update comes soon.March 23, 2017 at 10:04 pm #765767I just updated the Wordfence plugin, and got this feedback (always unpleasant). It appears to all be LAYERSLIDER related. Please excuse all the ***hidden***/ stuff – just for privacy:

It updated OK, but doesn’t feel good!!
~
I have also sent the following to Wordfence support:
I received the multiple ‘WARNING’ text in the Wordfence update window after the recent update was complete.
I have also attached a screenshot of the WARNING from Wordfence SCAN.PLEASE NOTE: You might be aware that there is an ongoing issue with Layerslider plugin in Enfold theme, which WORDFENCE had alerted users to. Nothing sinister amiss: Layerslider is bundled free with Enfold and sits dormant unless activated. The current problem is that it cannot be updated normally, it has to be pushed as a template update by ENFOLD. It should not be picked up by update scans. We’re currently awaiting a fix from the Enfold team. So, Wordfence is throwing up a Layerslider plugin update alert, but it’s blank – literally “”.
My questions therefore, are:
1. Are these warnings all related to LAYERSLIDER?
2. Are they critical, or just warnings as the plugin/theme is not functioning correctly?
3. Is there anything Wordfence can do about this alert – possibly to ignore it?
4. have you heard anything from either Layerslider (https://kreaturamedia.com/) or Enfold (http://kriesi.at/)?Hope this helps!

March 24, 2017 at 2:18 am #765824Hi Stevo: I updated Wordfence also this morning, there were no issues other than the warning that Layer Slider needed an update. I also use the Enfold Theme.
Wordpress also has a dot for Plugins showing on the left hand column.
You are right, the Layer Slider does not appear in the Plugins sections ( I don’t know why it doesn’t)
so no one can update it.
LayerSlider Support Forum shows even their paid customers are having difficulty trying to update the Layer Sldier Plugin, so its not just us who have, the plugin coded into the Enfold theme – with no way of updating it.
That’s all I got so far. We’re hanging on waiting for Kreisi to updated the Layer Slider Plugin which I believe he is working on right now. Thanks for your input.March 26, 2017 at 2:25 pm #766942Hi,
@Photoviews7 thank you :)@Stevo please refer to this thread
If you need further assistance please let us know.
