Has anybody else had this? I ran the last update on both of my websites and now google won’t index my home pages. I run Yoast on both sites so I know that everything with right on point before the updates. Now google fetch tests and the Ryte website list a whole host of problems that I don’t understand and haven’t seen before.

Both Yoast support and ryte show that the whole site appears to be indexed but something is stopping the home page from being indexed which is, of course, a major issue when my search engine results went from the top position prior to the update to now not being indexed.
Sitemaps have dropped off, API removed…..

I’m not using any plugins that I wasn’t using before the update either…

Is it possible that the update has robots.txt file that’s blocking indexation???? How can I go from top ranking for specific search results to not being indexed at all…. just because of an enfold update????

Any assistance at all would be greatly appreciated.

Hello? Can anybody help me? All of the support I’ve received elsewhere says that plugins must be the issue for returning a 404 error on my homepage but I’m not using any plugins that I wasn’t using with the older version of enfold.

I have tried running tests when all of the plugins are disabled so it can’t be plugins can it?

When I deactivated the enfold theme and activate the twenty sixteen theme the 404 problem disappeared immediately.

has anybody experienced the same problem with the enfold update?

Can anybody help me resolve this issue, I’m sick of all of my hard work in both of my enfold themed sites, all going to waste. I paid for the Yoast plugin and now the theme has made my site unindexable…. is anybody answering on here?

    Hi Steamed,

I looked at your screenshots and I do not see anything about the 404 on the front page.

Could you please clear the cache, check again and get back to us.

Please refrain from replying to your own thread because it gets pushed back to the end of the queue and moderators won’t be able to provide a response immediately. Please be patient while we go through the rest of the queue. Thank you for your understanding.

    Best regards,

Hi Victoria, Thanks for your reply. i need help from here because since my orignal post I’ve been on other forums and getting emails back from other support groups that have been quicker but unsuccessful.

I’ve cleared the cache and I still get the 404 error for both of my websites.

    Those results came from https://httpstatus.io/

This is the response I got from Yoast….

Although the homepage displays content, the page returns a 404 Not Found status code. The code can be checked here: https://httpstatus.io/

Sometimes resetting the permalink structure will quickly solve a 404 error from a recent change to your installation. Go to Admin > Settings > Permalinks and click save without altering anything. Then test the homepage here. If it returns a 200 OK, it can take up to a week for Google to index the changes you made, depending on how often your website is crawled. So for now, we’ll have to wait for Google to crawl your site again.

Sometimes you can speed up this process as described in this KB: Fetch as Googlebot

If it still returns a 404 Not Found, this may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one, starting with Yoast SEO, to identify the source of your troubles.

We understand if you wouldn’t want to deactivate your plugins and switch themes on a production site, so it may be preferable that you set up a staging environment for your tests. Some popular web hosts offer quick setups for a staging site so please contact your web host for assistance.

If your web host does not offer staging sites, this article will help you create a staging site: http://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-create-staging-environment-for-a-wordpress-site/

    Hi,

Sorry for the problem. Are you using the custom 404 page in the theme? If so then please try to turn that off to see if it helps. If not then please post admin login details in private so that we can have a closer look.

    Best regards,
    Rikard

Hi Rikard. No i’m not using any 404 page, just what comes with the theme

    #1073872

    Hi,

Thanks for the update. The theme has functionality for using a custom 404 page, that is what I’m referring to. I take it you are not using that? Please post admin login details in private if you should need any further help on the topic.

    Best regards,
    Rikard

Ok Thanks Rikard. I have two websites with the Enfold theme and they both have the same problem. Both temporary logins are posted in the private section.

    thanks very much

    Hi,

Thanks for that, I see that you are using the custom 404 page on both sites. What happens if you select to not show a custom 404 page in the theme options?

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    #1075356

Thanks Rikard, according to https://httpstatus.io/ it still produces a 404 error.

    #1075785

    Hi,

I deselected the page in the list on the main page of the theme options, you had not done that, you just selected to not use the functionality which will not de-list the page. I then cleared the cache from your caching plugin and the site now returns a 200 code, which means it’s working. I did this for the self defence site.

    Best regards,
    Rikard

oH ok, thanks very much mate, As always once you explain it I feel kinda silly but I’m very grateful for your assistance. I didn’t actually change anything in the PT website but now it also produces a 200 code so whatever happened has worked.

    Thanks mate, I appreciate it.

    Hi Steamed,

Great, I’m glad we could help and I’m sorry for the problem. These issues should hopefully be fixed in the next release of the theme.

    Best regards,
    Rikard
