    Hi,
    I moved the theme language files po and mo from “themes, enfold, lang” to the global language folder “wp-content, languages, themes” to be sure that my translations would not be overwritten in any future theme update. The problem is that this does not work – now the translations are not shown at the site, all texts are now in english.

    So my question is: why does this happen?

    If you do that, you also have to change the language URL folder:
    https://ulrich.pogson.ch/load-theme-plugin-translations
