Tagged: child theme
Hi,
I finally got around to setting up a child theme (thank you for the easy setup and import options, by the way), and now I’m wondering how I might find out which Enfold files have been modified with each update in order to see if I need to modify the child theme template files I have customized. For example, if I copy and paste the single.php file into my child theme folder and customize it, and yet there is an Enfold update that has modified the original single.php file, how would I find that out so I can make the necessary updates to the single.php file in the child theme folder?
Another question: If I want to customize a certain theme file, do I need to copy and paste it with the exact same directory path in the child theme folder? For example, if I want to customize the file helper-social-media.php in the enfold/includes/ folder, do I need to create an enfold-child/includes/ folder and paste the new helper-social-media.php into that folder?
One more: If I want to customize plugin files, is there a way to use the child theme technique to avoid having to re-modify the files when a plugin update is provided?
Thank you very much!
Brock
Hey understandchristianity!
Thank you for using Enfold.
1.) I’m sorry but we won’t be able to help you trace back changes and modifications made on the update. Check the change log on the theme’s overview page.
2.) Yes, you need to copy the exact template file directory although some files can’t be edited using the child theme, framework files, for example. You need to use filters or hooks if it’s available.
3.) Please contact the plugin author regarding this one.
