    Hi guys!!!

    How are you? Hope all is well. I setup a new client with Enfold and hosted on Kinsta and as of last December I raised a ticket with them because when working on the Portfolios, after uploading a number of images, the page would freeze and the Alt tag would not always commit to the WP database.

    After many tickets and them not being able to reproduce the problem, they sent to it their higher level support and this is what they replied:

    “Hi Havi, we could replicate the issue. It seems somehow the theme’s js file ran into a problem and stopped working. Can you please send this screenshot to Enfolde’s support and ask them about why this can happen? It happened after about the thirtieth image upload.

    js not working

    The site is on staging (link on Private Content)

    Please, let me know what you need from me to help fix this issue.

    Thank you so much!!!

    Warmly,

    Havi

    Hi guys!

    Just giving you a heads up that I will take the site live tomorrow. Just in case you needed credentials to see what’s happening.

    Thank you so much in advance!

    Hi,

    Sorry for the late response. Can you give us temporary admin access and ftp access? so we can try to check it.

    Best regards,
    Nikko

    Hi Nikko!!

    No problem!! Let me work on getting you the access and I’ll be sending it to you shortly.. We are going live this afternoon so I’d rather give you the new access.

    Hi Havi,

    Thanks, just post it here once it’s available :)

    Best regards,
    Nikko

    You bet!! :)

    Thank you, Nikko! (I initiated the DNS change and register dot com has a TTL of 12-24 hours!!) I may change their DNS to Kinsta that gives us free Amazon DNS. So, this may take a couple of days…

    Warm regards,

    Havi

    Hi Havi,

    You’re welcome :) we will be waiting and keep this thread open.

    Hi Nikko!!

    Preparing access for you. Will send shortly via Private message.

    You will notice two things:
    #1 – After a certain number of image uploads to the portfolio (without saving the draft) the page will freeze when uploading one more image to the gallery) This only happens on this particular install.

    #2- I always enter the Alt Text when uploading the image but when you go back and check them via the Media Gallery, that text is not there in some cases – This happens on all the installs I checked (different hosts)

    If you have any questions I’m here!!

    Thank you!!!

    Warmly,

    Havi

    Hi,

    Thank you for the info.

    Are you uploading the same image over and over? I found the test portfolio entry but it’s working properly so I’m a little lost here. ( see private field )

    Best regards,
    Ismael

    Hi Ismael!

    That was the Kinsta test. They created it. I’ll send you the link on the private field to the one I gave them to use but they got to reproduce it following my little manual (sending you that too – I made a pdf)

    They kept on uploading the same image again and again – I told them they HAD to upload an image.

    Don’t forget to go to the Image Library later to check that your Alt text is there for all the images. Some will not be.

    Please, let me know how else I can help

    Hi,

    I’m sorry but I can’t download the pdf file. Do you have a screencast? How many times do you have to upload the image? There’s a ton of them already in the page.

    Best regards,
    Ismael

    Hi Ismael,

    I broke it down into 5 jpgs and here are the links. Please, do not publish the draft portfolios as this is a live site. Yes, there are a lot of images as the client has a lot of portfolios. Also, Kinsta has uploaded images (that I later deleted from the WP image library – please make sure I can do the same with yours) take them as thumbnails, you can use the same draft and upload new images to the same spots.

    Kinsta indicated they had to upload 13 images to replicate the frozen screen issue. I have seen it happen at 18 images (as long as you don’t save the draft and keep on working)

    For the second issue (the disappearance of the ALT text – this happens on all of the Enfold installs I manage when uploading and image via the Advanced Layout Editor) it happens most of the time (e.g., 5 images will keep the ALT text you entered and one won’t then 3 images will and 2 won’t) I have gone back and manually entered the ALT text via the WP image Gallery, one by one. But once, you are done uploading images via the Portfolio’s advanced layout editor, you can check the image library and see where the ALT text is missing.

    Here are the screenshots to follow to replicate the issue (I added them to my Google Drive):

    I really hope this helps (this is the exact manual Kinsta followed to replicate the issue and they did)

    Thank you so much!

    Hi Havi,

    Please check these values on your installation

    php_value post_max_size 512M
    php_value upload_max_filesize 512M
    php_value max_input_vars 5000
    php_value max_execution_time 300
    php_value max_input_time 300
    php_value memory_limit 512M

    If you need further assistance please let us know.
    Best regards,
    Victoria

    Hi Victoria!

    I will pass this on to the Kinsta guys. There is not an .htaccess file on Nginx (that’s only on Apache) but the ESSB plugin checks the resources and I did see that max.input.vars is 10000.

    Would adjusting this take care of both issues?

    I’ll keep you posted on their reply.

    Thank you!!

    Havi

    #907624

    Hi Victoria,

    Here’s KInsta’s reply:

    Hi Havi,

    Here are the current settings for your container:

    post_max_size = 128M
    upload_max_filesize = 128M
    max_input_vars = 10000
    max_execution_time = 300
    max_input_time = 300
    memory_limit = 256M

    You’ll note that a few of these are below the developer’s “requirements”, but I don’t think they’ll help. As far as I’m aware, every single one of these if you hit that limit, PHP will scream loudly into error.log, and as they’re already rather generous (half a gigabyte max POST size is incredible!) I would question why they even need to be any higher (it’s my personal opinion that outside cron jobs, PHP’s max execution time should be substantially lower to improve site reliability).

    I mean, it’s your container and it will only affect your site if we raise them, I just don’t see it helping, only potentially hurting. Let me know if you want us to raise them.

    ********
    BTW, another one of my sites has lower settings than these and I don’t have this particular issue of frozen portfolio pages. I do have the missing ALT text on some of the images (the second issue but so do they) after having entered it via the Advanced Layout Editor (not when the image is uploaded the standard wordpress way of add image) I don’t know if this additional info helps. I hope so.

    Let me know what the next step is.

    Thank you!
    Havi

    Hi Victoria!

    Thank you so much! I’ll pass it on to the Kinsta guys so they can do that. Crossing fingers!! :)
