Hello,
We are constantly having 404 errors with portfolio items URLs. The portfolio items URL comes up, but the page displays 404 error. We have tested all plugins for conflicts and the only plugin that seems to possibly be the issue is Yoast SEO.
Do you know of a solution to the issue of 404 errors with portfolio items?
We have run all the updates on a regular basis, but this has been happening randomly for at least the past 6-8 months.
Thanks.

Could you post a link to where we can see the problem you are having please? Also please include admin login details in private in case we should need to access the backend of your site.
Best regards,

Thanks for that. I checked the first 5 portfolio items from the backend, and all of them return 404 errors. But when I check from the front end, all of them load fine, which is a bit strange. Is that the problem you are seeing on your end as well, or are you getting 404 errors on the front end as well?
Best regards,

Thanks for the update. I checked the item in private, but I can’t get that to result in a 404 error on either the front or backend? I know you said that this happens randomly, but do you know a sure way to reproduce it? It would help us in the debugging process.
Also, you might want to create a staging version of the site, where you can experiment with different settings.
Best regards,

Thanks for the update. I can’t see any 404 errors on the staging site either, but I’m not sure why they are happening on the live site unfortunately. Are there any differences between the two sites now?

Thanks for the update. I checked the live site now as well, but I can’t see any 404 errors. Maybe you could try to monitor the status of the site and let us know if this problem should occur again?

Thanks for the update. I’m not sure why that would be, but I haven’t seen any other customers having the same problem, so it’s likely local to your site. Could you try reaching out to Yoast support as well to see if they can see what is going wrong please? Also please activate debugging on the staging site, and share the logs with us: https://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-set-up-wordpress-error-logs-in-wp-config/

RikardApril 12, 2022 at 8:30 am #1348048Hi,
did you find a solution to this? I’ve got the problem in frontend and preview. All of my portfolio items show the 404 error ‘Page not found. The requested URL was not found on this server.’Edit: When I Publish a site it’s showing the error as well. If I switch back to draft it works again.
Thanks and best regards

April 12, 2022 at 9:58 am #1348063Hi Melanie,
The 404 error page is not a WordPress error page, could you share the content of your .htaccess file please? Also please try reaching out to your hosting provider about this, as it might be due to a server setting.
