This issue has been referenced elsewhere in Reply #1133508 but the response was unhelpful for me. I’ve tried updating to the latest Enfold version a few times but always need to revert backwards as I lose Google Analytics tracking. I think I have my Privacy and Cookies options incorrect or something not set properly. My job is partially evaluated by web traffic so I’m hesitant to leave the new theme and lose traffic reporting for any extended time. If I provided access to a staging site, would someone be able to help me set this properly so I don’t lose traffic reporting unless visitors explicitly deny Google Analytics cookies? Thanks in advance for your support!

Thank you for the inquiry.
The analytics script is loaded even when the user haven’t explicitly consented to the cookies yet, so it is working properly. Please check the screenshot below.

As you may have noticed, we haven’t consented to the cookies yet, but the analytics.js file is still loaded in the site along with the facebook pixel code.

IsmaelNovember 14, 2019 at 4:31 pm #1156834Thanks for looking at this. Not sure if this will help but I have some new information. I tried to update the theme again. I loaded it and watched the Google Analytics by hour. In the link below you can see the clear dip in traffic after the theme is loaded. Instead of reverting the theme back, I disabled the cookies consent message. Google Analytics returned traffic to normal levels. Does this help in any way? Anything I have incorrectly set up or has anyone else had a similar issue? I’m running the site without the consent message until I figure out how to keep Google tracking properly.
Google Analytics
November 18, 2019 at 12:16 pm #1157832Hi,
Thank you for the update.
The window property that disables the Google Analytics tracking is undefined on page load, so there’s no reason that the tracker will not work. Did you actually test it on the live domain? The property will only be defined when the Google Analytics Cookies button from the privacy modal popup window is enabled.

IsmaelNovember 21, 2019 at 11:29 pm #1158950Thanks for looking at this. Yes, I did test it. You can see this during the dip in traffic in the google analytics screenshot. I’ll try turning it on again tomorrow and see if anything has changed. I’ll report back.
November 25, 2019 at 2:05 am #1159741Hi,
Thank you for the update.
I loaded it and watched the Google Analytics by hour. In the link below you can see the clear dip in traffic after the theme is loaded. I https://imgur.com/a/qfC2quE
If I read the analytics report correctly, the dip starts exactly 10pm at night until 8am in the morning, then from there the number of visitors rises until afternoon, then people get lunch and go back to their work, so it slowly dwindle down until 4am. Only when people start to get out of their offices and have some free time to surf the web, the traffic starts to increase again until 9pm. When did you load the theme or enable the privacy options during that day?
Best regards,
IsmaelNovember 26, 2019 at 4:05 am #1160173I loaded the new theme with the privacy option “ON” between 9am and 10am. I let it stay for a few hours to show the significant drop in traffic (not entirely dropping to zero as we have a shopify store that also includes the GA code) and then kept the new theme version but removed the privacy option between 1pm and 2pm. You can see the drop in the middle of day that is out of character for the site. You can see in the prior year in orange the traffic is usually the highest during this time. Any thoughts on this?
November 27, 2019 at 3:22 am #1160548Hi,
Sorry about that. I actually read the orange line from 2018 — fault of not reading legends.
We confirmed that the tracker is still collecting the data even when the cookie consent option is enabled. Please check the screenshot below.

As you can see the tracker is still retrieving the site data even if we haven’t accepted the cookies yet. (see private field)
Best regards,
