Hi,
Please help: I just updated a customer’s website to 4.2.6, after that the site returns an internal server error 500 and a white screen of death (WSOD). Tried Chrome and Firefox. The dashboard is still functioning normally.
Please help!!
Best regards,
Roger H.March 9, 2018 at 10:59 am #924394Me too. Have tried to disable all plugins but still 500 error.
Have tried to switch to other theme – the site then works.
Tried to delete Enfold theme and reinstall from file – then 500 server problem is still there.
Can access backend
What to do?

VictoriaMarch 9, 2018 at 4:43 pm #924600THanks Victoria,
I activated this, now the site returns this error:
Fatal error: Can’t use function return value in write context in /var/www/virtual/connect2improve.com/htdocs/wp-content/themes/enfold/header.php on line 6
March 9, 2018 at 4:50 pm #924606I have the same error
Fatal error: Can’t use function return value in write context in /home/content/19/10883219/html/wp-content/themes/enfold/header.php on line 6March 9, 2018 at 4:51 pm #924607I commented out line 6, and now the site is functioning again, however there’s an issue now with the sticky menu bar.
Can you please restory/fix the issue in header.php?? The production site of my customer is all day down already :-(
Best regards,
RogerMarch 10, 2018 at 10:39 pm #925060Hi,
Can you please replace the header with the following
https://github.com/KriesiMedia/enfold-library/blob/master/temp_fixes/Enfold_4_2_6/header.phpand let us know if that would work?
Best regards,
BasilisMarch 10, 2018 at 11:35 pm #925100I’m having the same issue. Waiting for a hotfix.
March 10, 2018 at 11:42 pm #925102Having the same problem. We run a business site on Enfold, how on earth is it possible that you introduce critical bugs so that nothing works in your updates?
EDIT: The fix suggested above worked. Replaced the header.php page did it. Never again will I dear to push the upgrade button for Enfold easily. I have done the mistake once before when it broke, and I did it again now.
UPDATE: Seems all Contact7 forms are not working any more. Not sure if it is related to Enfold yet though.
SUGGESTION: I think you should introduce stable releases that people actually can trust and are reliable.

March 10, 2018 at 11:52 pm #925107Hi!
Issue occurs on PHP versions older than 5.6, which is minimum version recommended for WordPress. However our devs edited header.php file (the one Basilis shared) and made it backwards compatible. We still recommend upgrading to PHP 7.x. Here is a good article – https://kinsta.com/blog/php-7-hhvm-benchmarks/

YigitMarch 11, 2018 at 12:08 am #925110SiteGround hostin had this setting: PHP 5.6.33 – System Default but it looks like it was actually 5.4 as WordPress printed that even though SiteGround printed 5.6.33.
I had three options 7.0.27, 7.1.14 and 7.2.2. The only version that worked was 7.0.27.

YigitMarch 14, 2018 at 2:50 pm #926637Hi,
With PHP 7.2 it works indeed.
For the one PHP 5.4 customer, I used the hotfix which is working fine!
So, this thread can be closed. Thanks everyone!
