Hi! I only just realized (after seeing several spam comments in the WordPress dashboard) that images which have been uploaded to the media library are all available to view as a “blog page” with comments open below. For instance, if a person has the file name of an uploaded image, they can paste that name right after the main domain and then view that image. Instead of this image displaying on a blank page/window, the images opens on a type of blog page (not one I have created).. This has created a lot of unnecessary spam comments.. I don’t want image viewing to default to a blog style whereby users are able to comment (I have comments turned off in the Discussion section so am not sure why this has comments turned on). I’ve attached a screenshot so you can see what i am referring to.
Thanks for your help!June 8, 2019 at 6:55 am #1108405Hey webdesign,
That is default WordPress functionality, this might help you out: https://wordpress.stackexchange.com/questions/237762/disable-attachment-pages-completely. You should be able to redirect them using a plugins like Yoast SEO as well; Yoast->Search Appearance->Media->Media & attachment URLs ->Yes

RikardJune 9, 2019 at 4:57 am #1108550Hi! So I tried your suggestion using Yoast. I set it to YES. The images, when clicked, no longer opened. So I turned it back to NO, and the images still do not open. Could you please look at this for me? Click on any image. When I hover I can see the file name/directory/path at the bottom of my browser but nothing happens. Site is below:
June 9, 2019 at 5:25 am #1108552I want to clarify the above after looking at the wordpress file. These are “galleries” and when you click on each image, they are supposed to open up a gallery of images.
Additionally, I see this page (below) also isn’t functioning now: Instead of opening in lightbox, this opens to the single image file. It is set to “big images with thumbnails below” These should just be changing in large image at the time on each click. As mentioned, I changed the Yoast setting back to NO.

Can you give us temporary admin access to your website in the private content box below, so that we can have a closer look?

June 9, 2019 at 7:33 pm #1108669Hi webdesign,
You have the child theme, do you have the header.php file in your child theme? Is it updated with the fresh copy?
Best regards,
VictoriaJune 9, 2019 at 7:45 pm #1108672Yes, I have the header.php under my child theme, and I have not made any changes to the header file. I use the child style sheet for custom css, and the functions file for customization. But I don’t add any “updates” in these files. What do I need to do in the header file (under my child theme) to update it? When I update Enfold, doesn’t it take care of all the updates needed for the theme? I should i be doing other updates elsewhere? Does this have something to do with changing the Yoast to “YES” in the search appearance/media section? Thanks!
June 9, 2019 at 9:01 pm #1108690Hi webdesign,
If there were no changes to the header.php file you can remove it from the child theme and see is the issue persists?
Best regards,
VictoriaJune 9, 2019 at 9:12 pm #1108693Hi! I’m still a little confused. The problem started when I went to Yoast and selected “Yes” for the media linking, as suggested above. This did not work, it caused a problem by not being able to have the images open as expected. I revered to the original setting of “No” in Yoast. I’m trying to understand what the header file has to do with this, and why removing this would help? Thanks!
June 9, 2019 at 11:53 pm #1108713Hi,
Thanks for the login I took a look at your header.php in the child theme and see that it an old version that doesn’t include the last lightbox fix.
Please save a copy of your header.php as a backup for yourself and then move or remove the child theme header.php on the server so it’s not in use and see if this helps.Best regards,
MikeJune 10, 2019 at 3:48 am #1108727Hi Mike! No, unfortunately that was not the fix. I deleted the code out of the header file in my child theme, saved it (empty file) and it dramatically messed up the site! I quickly pasted the header info back in. Can you perhaps send me the code for the updated lightbox that maybe I could patch in? Alternatively, should I try uninstalling and reinstalling Yoast? I don’t know if this will mess anything else up. Thanks!
