Hi. I have a number of blog posts which are primarily photo galleries using the Masonry Gallery with each photo opening in a lightbox. I upload all photos at 2500 pixels wide and until recently they were shown at ‘fullscreen’ and appeared sharp. It seems that recently there has been a change that limits the images to 1000px high, regardless of aspect ratio, then stretches them to full screen in the lightbox, resulting in less sharp looking images,

Presumably it is something to do with the WordPress image sizes generated on upload, but I’ve tried changing the Max Width and Max Height and regenerating, but there is no improvement. Uploading new images doesn’t fix it either. Blog posts from a few months ago still display high resolution sharp images. Any ideas?

I’ve linked to the galleries in the Private Content. The most recent five have the reduced image resolution. Prior to that they are fine.

    Thanks!

    Hey topergarden,

Can you give us temporary admin access to your website in the private content box below, so that we can have a closer look?

    Best regards,
    Victoria

    Hi,
Sorry for the very late reply and thanks for the login, it looks like the masonry element is set to “Perfect Automatic Masonry”, this option uses the cropped images for the images that are extra high or wide, thus the images that are cropped to 1k. Please try the “Flexible Masonry” as All images get the same width but are displayed with their original height and width ratio
I also note that your WordPress > Dashboard > Settings > Media > Media Settings > Image sizes > Large size is set to 9999px, which is ok to try to get the full size, but I believe that leaving the fields empty also allows for full size and doesn’t push the images though the cropping process which could change the quantity.

    Best regards,
    Mike

Thanks for that. It appears to work now when uploading images to a new gallery/post. I’m not sure how to fix it for the existing posts though. Changing to flexible masonry and regenerating thumbnails hasn’t helped. Any ideas?

    Hi,
Glad to hear this is helping for the new uploads, to correct the other ones you will need to re-upload the images, I recommend uploading them with a slightly different file name.

    Best regards,
    Mike
