Hi,
It is advertised Enfold is compatible with IE 8 but there are issues All over my test site.
http://littledigitalagency.com/Client/openfin/
For instance –
1. the logo on all pages is distorted and partially hidden
2. the Home page shows 2 Banners. I have a second banner placed on the page but with CSS to hide it except while on a Phone. Works great except for IE8.
3. Several Top banners on interior pages show extra background at the bottom of the banner as shown here: http://littledigitalagency.com/Client/openfin/app-gallery/
4. On this same page you can see the images that look fine on other browsers have turned into thin lines (inside each box) http://littledigitalagency.com/Client/openfin/app-gallery/
5. The Home page also distorts Blog featured images and turns images into thin lines http://littledigitalagency.com/Client/openfin/ (scroll to the bottom section “Latest From Our Blog” and “Press Center”.These are the issues that jumped out at me. I haven’t scoured the site completely.
Any ideas? Is the theme no longer compatible with IE 8? I tried deactivating all plugins but that didn’t help.
Thanks!
SladeDecember 18, 2014 at 6:52 pm #370138Hey Slade!
I see the issue on #1 but that’s the only issue I see on my end. Are you sure compatibility view is turned off and your zoom setting is set to 100%?
Take some screenshots of the other issues so we can get a better idea.
For the logo issue try using this CSS.
.avia-msie-8 .logo img { width: 100% !important; height: 50px !important; }
Cheers!
ElliottDecember 18, 2014 at 9:37 pm #370225Hi Elliot!
Thanks for the reply! The clients site was not in Compatibility view. After inserting the CSS code you gave me for the logo the logo disappeared in IE 8. If they turn Compatibility View “on” then the logo looks fine (the rest of the issues are still there though).
I am using Browserstack and am seeing what they are. I decided to test other sites I have used Enfold on and the issues are all the same in IE 8.
This hasn’t be a big deal because I haven’t met a client that uses IE 8. This client actually makes Apps for financial institutions that cater to IE 8.
Here are a few screenshots to better show you the issues:
http://littledigitalagency.com/Client/openfin/screenshots/image.png (shows the extra background under the top banner)
http://littledigitalagency.com/Client/openfin/screenshots/image-1.png (shows HomePage “Press Center” images distorted)
http://littledigitalagency.com/Client/openfin/screenshots/image-2.png (shows extra background on top banner and distorted images inside the boxes)
http://littledigitalagency.com/Client/openfin/screenshots/image-3.png (shows both the desktop Slideshow AND the mobile image showing at the same time – I got code from here to make it only show 1 at a time depending on the user viewing on desktop or phone)
http://littledigitalagency.com/Client/openfin/screenshots/image-3a.png (this is an updated screenshot showing the LOGO gone after using the css code you recently gave me).Thanks!

December 19, 2014 at 6:23 pm #370686Hi!
Hmm, well your logo is looking fine to me now. I’m on IE11 and using the the debug tools to emulate IE8. I don’t have an actual copy of IE8 to test on so it’s going to make this difficult.
Are you seeing any issues on our demo site in IE8? http://kriesi.at/themes/enfold/
Does deactivating plugins and uploading a fresh copy of the theme help?
Cheers!

December 20, 2014 at 3:44 am #370876I don’t believe your IE8 simulator is showing the same thing that a computer actually running IE8 is.
I can get the logo to appear correctly only when running in compatability mode. I’m not sure I can force each IE8 user to turn on compatibility mode on.
I looked at the Enfold demo on IE8 and there are loads of issues but none that pertain to my site. From what I can tell – most all of the issue deal with an image inside a text box. Anyplace I use a textbox and ‘insert media’ – IE8 can’t render that correrctly.
I have been trying to redo the design and not use text boxes (not easy and comprimises the design quite a bit). The 2 big issues that don’t pertain to an image inside a text box is the Logo and the mobile banner on the home page. I’m not sure what to do about these.
I did re-upload Enfold but that didn’t help. I deactivated all plugins and took out all Custom CSS…still didn’t help.

I’ll go ahead and flag this for the rest of our team to take a look.
Best regards,

Can you please paste the code you are referring to here?

JosueDecember 29, 2014 at 1:19 pm #372547Hi Josue,
Here is what I am using: `@media only screen and (min-width: 735px){
.homeslide-mobile { display: none !important
}
}`The desktop LayerSlider is set to “hide under 736”
This works perfectly on everything except IE8.
Thanks!
December 29, 2014 at 3:11 pm #372580Hey!
Media queries do not work on IE8. Please try adding following code to Functions.php file in Appearance > Editor
function add_custom_slider(){ ?> <script> jQuery(window).load(function(){ if (jQuery(window).width() <= 735){ jQuery(".homeslide-mobile").hide(); } }); </script> <?php } add_action('wp_footer', 'add_custom_slider');
Cheers!
YigitDecember 30, 2014 at 9:45 am #372988Thanks Yigit! I am still waiting for the client to confirm (I don’t have access to IE8) and will let you know.
The other remaining IE8 issue was the stretched logo. The code Elliot gave me earlier in this thread works only in Compatibility Mode in IE8. If not in Compatibility Mode then the logo disappears (this is Only in IE8 – all other browsers the logo looks fine).
Any ideas?
Thanks!
SladeDecember 30, 2014 at 2:01 pm #373093Hey!
Sure Slade, we will be waiting to hear from you. Unfortunately i do not have a windows computer to check your website on IE8. I asked my teammates, please kindly wait to hear from them.

YigitDecember 30, 2014 at 11:07 pm #373344Hi Yigit,
Regarding the ‘double banner’ issue – the code you sent that I placed in the function.php file seems to have hidden both banners from mobile view. When I open the site on my iPhone there isn’t either banner showing.
December 31, 2014 at 3:36 am #373401Hey!
@p_castro: Thank you for taking interest on improving the Enfold theme on legacy browsers such as IE8. We all know that this browser will become obsolete soon, if not, will be almost non-existent on windows machines on the coming years. I’m not going to bore you with the details but the IE8 usage or global market share ranged from 6% to 8% and continues dwindle to the point that it is no longer sensible to exert too much effort on supporting this browser. Windows XP is the main reason IE8 stayed that long on the browser circulation. The OS is widely use on the PC ecosystem, particularly for businesses, but Microsoft already ended their support on Windows XP last April. With the ending of support for XP, users are essentially going to be forced into having to upgrade their operating systems to receive assistance, security updates, et cetera. Upon upgrading to these newer systems, users will need to also update their browser to a newer version. Still, Enfold is compatible with the browser with few minor flaws which are to be expected given the fact that IE8 is an almost 6 year old piece of software. Also, Envato no longer requires Internet Explorer 8 support from their themes which is why other premium themes such X doesn’t claim IE8 compatibility.
@Sladestyle: Please try to replace the code with this:function add_custom_slider(){ ?> <script> jQuery(window).load(function(){ if (jQuery(window).width() >= 735){ jQuery(".homeslide-mobile").hide(); } }); </script> <?php } add_action('wp_footer', 'add_custom_slider');
Cheers!

IsmaelJanuary 4, 2015 at 12:58 pm #374675Hi Ismael,
That code seems to have done the job! I should have looked closer at the “<>” sign.
Thanks!
