    Hi there. I am facing these issues according to Ahrefs and I’d like to know:

    1. Why is this happening and my WP did not handle it automatically so these issues won’t come up.
    2. How to fix them.

    I will show now the issues:

    – ISSUE 1 –

    Duplicate pages without canonical

    Issue details

    Pages with duplicate or very similar content that don't specify their canonical version.

    Although Google asserts that they can automatically choose the best version of the content to show in their search results, it won't necessarily be page version you want to be indexed. That is why similar or duplicate pages of your website must have a "rel=canonical" attribute to instruct search engines to show the most authoritative (canonical) version of the page in search results.

    How to fix

    Review all the pages with duplicate content listed in this report.

    For every page in the group of duplicates, you should pick one canonical version that you want to be indexed in search results. Add its URL to the "rel=canonical" labeling on each page with duplicated content, including the canonical page itself.

    – ISSUE 2 –

    Missing reciprocal hreflang (no return-tag)

    Issue details

    Confirmation (return) links are missing for the pages declared in hreflang annotations.

    If page A links to page B in hreflang annotations, page B must link to page A in return.

    If this is not the case for all pages that use hreflang annotations, those annotations may be ignored or misinterpreted correctly.

    How to fix

    To fix the issue, make sure all the page versions translated or targeted to users in a certain region have the same set of hreflang annotations which includes URLs to all the page versions. This will always provide return links between the alternate pages.

    – ISSUE 3 –

    Self-reference hreflang annotation missing

    Issue details

    To indicate multiple language/location versions of a page to the search engines, each language version of a page must list itself as well as all other language versions.

    Hreflang annotations without the self-referencing link may be ignored or misinterpreted by the search engines.

    How to fix

    Review all the pages with missing self-referencing hreflang annotations listed in this report. You can see all hreflang links specified for a given page in the table.

    Make the necessary changes, so that each of these pages has a self-referencing hreflang annotation.

    For example, a Spanish version of your page must have rel="alternate" hreflang="es" annotation with a link to itself.

    Hey neotel2k,

    Sorry for the delay.

    Have you tried using Yoast to set a canonical URL for duplicated content or pages? For more info about the plugin feature, please check the following articles.

    // https://yoast.com/features/canonical-url-tags/
    // https://yoast.com/rel-canonical/

    WordPress also set a canonical URL automatically but only for paginated pages.

    Best regards,
    Ismael
