I have just downloaded the newest version of Enfold, and would like to update, but am afraid my work will be undone, is this a possibility, or can I simply install and activate it and my content will remain the same?
If not, what steps will I need to take in order to preserve my content and settings?
Thank you for your help.
September 5, 2013 at 12:17 am #139495Hi dkhollen,
No you will not lose anything by updating the theme files. All data in WordPress is stored in the database and not in the theme files. So unless you modified the php, js or css files then you can just update.
For a quick guide on updating your theme take a look at this video on updating the Enfold theme via FTP: htps://vimeo.com/chanels/aviathemes/67209750

September 5, 2013 at 6:29 pm #139496But what about the new Update-from-backend function that was introduced in version 2.0? Can I use this function even if I have made changes to the custom.css and the functions.php files?
Or is there a way to use a child theme?

September 5, 2013 at 6:32 pm #139497Hi Michael,
Yes Enfold is child theme compatible and you can watch this video that Devin prepated showing how to create a child theme http://vimeo.com/67221517

September 5, 2013 at 6:46 pm #139498Awesome. But when I activate the child theme all my former theme settings are gone. Is there an option to export them enfold theme settings I made at the themes options page and import them once I activated the child theme?
September 6, 2013 at 1:22 pm #139499Me again. I just saw that there is such an option in the very latest version 2.1.
“added import parent theme settings button for child themes”
Can that be done with version 2.0.1 as well? That would really help a lot
Cheers

September 6, 2013 at 1:52 pm #139500And again it´s me ;-)
Now I installed the version 2.1 and activated my child theme. I pressed the green import button but literally nothing happens. At least I can´t see any indication of a progress.
Any ideas?
Cheers

September 6, 2013 at 2:20 pm #139501Last time…I promise.
It worked now. Almost perfect. The Menu assignment did not work and the widget where a bit messed up but that´s not a big deal.
Thanks for an awesome theme.

September 7, 2013 at 3:29 pm #139502I know WordPress in general has some issues with the menu data so we’ll take another look at it. Widgets are unfortunately in that same grey area of mostly working with imports/exports.
Glad it *mostly* worked for you :)

Devin
