    Hi,

Due to a business conflict, I have to delete my website as soon as possible. Can you tell me the best way to do this?

Or, is there an option to simply take it ‘offline’ so nobody can see it when they do a Google search but so that I can still work on it in the background?

My priority is to do this as quickly as possible, so advice on both these options would be appreciated.

    Many thanks in advance.

    Hey fionayoung,
I recommend using a plugin such as Password Protected it is very easy to use. I also recommend checking the box at WordPress > Settings > Reading > Search Engine Visibility to ask Google to not index it.

    Hi Mike,

    Many thanks for your reply.

I have changed my Search Engine visibility setting as you suggested. I have also changed all the pages on my site to drafts so when you type in the domain name, you just get “page not found”. However, my site still appears in a google search if you type in a few specific key words (I’ll add them below).

Does it take a while for google not to index my site? And do you think if I add a plugin like “Password Protected”, as you suggested, the above may no longer happen?

    Thanks again,

    Fiona

    Hi,
It will take a while for Google to not show your site, here is a good article on the steps you can do.

    Best regards,
    Mike
