HI
I am about to start updating a site which is on drupal now and am not sure how to go about it. It’s running on a dedicated server with Hetzner (germany) but they don’t offer any real wordpress support. I’m not sure how to proceed and wondered if you recommend any hosting services? I need the drupal site to be up while I build the new site, but I don’t really understand how drupal works. I saw there was a plugin to migrate sites from drupal – wordpress, but I will kind of be doing a complete overhaul. What do you recommend? Will be using Enfold, of course.thanks

I’ve asked Peter to drop in as he is the most familiar with hosts in the area.
In general however your best route would be to do some googling and look through tutorials on setting up a dev environment on a server/migration. Its all relative to the host and what they allow but I know places like Bluehost will let you build on a temporary domain/ip and then when you are ready to direct the real domain to the hosting account you can change it over and close down the old one.
I’m sure others more local to you would have a similar option :)

DevinAugust 28, 2014 at 4:33 pm #310513Hey!
I can recommend All-Inkl Hosting. Kriesi and I host our websites there, Kriesi uses a dedicated server, I host my websites on a shared host server. The service is great – they answer your emails often after 30 minutes, 24/7 week. They restore your website (files and database) if you mess something up, they upgrade the php and mysql version to the latest stable versions if you ask them to upgrade them and they allow cloud scripts like owncloud, etc. which also saves you the dropbox account. I even use them for my dynamic ip mappings (which saves me a dyndns or noip.com account). The price is imo fair.
Cheers!
PeterAugust 28, 2014 at 5:39 pm #310554thanks for the advice. I also looked at bluehost –
how do they compare? I am not a programmer at all but want to be able
to restore stuff & clone sites & make sure it’s all as it should be.
/NAugust 29, 2014 at 5:22 pm #311007Bluehost is still considered a somewhat budget hosting solution so the server quality is just enough. That will work for the average small business but anything greater and you would want to go with a provider like Peter suggested.
August 30, 2014 at 11:52 am #311257Thanks – I checked out Alt-inkl but they are only in german. Do you know of a service like that that is also in english?
The site I am building is for an adventure travel service, not huge but more involved than other sites I have worked on
so I want to make sure the server is fast and there is good space. I am not a programmer, and have not had to look
into the differences in servers before. Appreciate your help.
