    I am a beginner so some of this may seem silly… I installed the sample content to help learn how to get started but, don’t want to erase it all so I can refer back for ideas. I have marked all the sample content as private and killed the menu items leading to them but, they still show up in the sidebar and footer as pages. How can I hide this? Or as I suspect is there another option that makes far better sense that I am unaware of?

    Hi,

    Those are dummy widgets. If you want to override them, go to Appearance > Widgets and supply the widget areas with widgets, specifically the Sidebars and Footers.
