Basically, there will be one large post (which will be the latest one at the top), and the other posts are to follow in order of date published. All posts will have the same category.

NikkoI was able to achieve it using 2 separate blog post blocks
1 showing just a single post at the top using the single author/big preview block and the other using a grid layout, i also created a special category for the one at the very top
updating i will have to manually change the top post category every day for it to move down to the buttom
is there a simpler way using just a single content element?

Thank you for the update.
You do not have to create a special category for the first post. Just set both Blog Posts elements’ Content > Filter > Offset Number to the second option to disallow duplicate posts. The first post will automatically move to the second blog posts element when another post is created.
