    HI guys,

    I created this site a long time ago and am not having a hard time updating the site to the most recent version. I tried via SFTP but it broke the site. Would you be able to help with this please? I’ve provided credentials below. And have already made a backup of the site. Thx

    Hey bobfurgo,
    Thanks for the login and ftp access, I renamed your current parent theme to “enfold-old” via ftp then I uploaded the new “enfold” via ftp and checked that your site is working correctly. Please also check for yourself carefully.
    Once you are happy, you (or I) can delete the “enfold-old” via ftp, (not the WP theme page)
    Should for some reason you wish to roll-back to the old version, it’s easy to do, simply rename the new “enfold” to “enfold-new” via ftp and then rename “enfold-old” to “enfold” via ftp and then refresh your page.

    Hi,
    Glad to help, are you going to be ok with deleting the “enfold-old” or shall I do it?

    Hi,
    Odd, the update had not been applied, not sure what happened back then but the FTP access still worked so I applied the update and it seems to be working fine on the frontend. The WordPress login didn’t work so I can’t check the backend, please login and check.

    Looks great! Thank you so much. I have 3 other that I need assistance updating the theme via FTP as well. Whenever I try to do it, it just breaks the site. Can you help with this as well? I will give you the FTP details. Should I keep it in this thread or open a new one? Thanks so much Mike!

    Hi,
    Typically we prefer if you would open a new thread for each issue, but in this case please include the logins here. I wonder why the sites are braking? Are you overwriting the theme folders or are you uploading a new theme folder for the new theme?
    The steps I took were:
    1: rename the new extracted theme folder on my desktop to “enfold-new” from “enfold”
    2: upload “enfold-new” to /wp-content/themes/ via FTP
    3: in FTP rename “enfold” to “enfold-old” in /wp-content/themes/
    4: in FTP rename “enfold-new” to “enfold” in /wp-content/themes/
    5: check the site.
    note everything is done in FTP, afterwards you can login to the site to ensure everything is working correctly, I would only expect complications if your PHP version is 5.4 or under or if your WordPress is under version 5, or if you didn’t use a child theme and had custom scripts or theme modifications in the parent theme.
    Should you need to switch back to the old version, simply reverse the rename order above so your “old” theme is “enfold”
