Half section split

Hi
I dont know if its possible but i want a section of a page to be split in half, so that:
1 section has a background colour the height of the section (and the half column width) and has an image on top of it (png)
and the other half is white (Or an image) with text over the top of it – Image is full height of section and half the width.

I hope that im making sense in what im trying to say, really just want a section split in half with in effect a background image or colour as a half of that section.

If its possible can anyone help.
Im trying to make it happen and cant!
