My apologies- I don’t mean to duplicate this ticket (#815094), but the error has occurred again.
Same error as described below. Previously, Enfold support provided me with a API key with out describing how to fix the problem in the future. I recently updated wordpress, and encountered the same error as described below. Should Enfold support provide me with a new API key? I am using the previously provided key resulting in this error:
An error occurred
It seems that your Google API key is not configured correctly
The key is probably either restricted to the wrong domain or the domain syntax you entered is wrong.
Please check your API key here
The domain that should be allowed is:
http://mydomain.com/*My key is pasted into the google services section of Enfold Theme Options.
I have reconfigured my API key and referrers multiple times with many possible variations as mentioned in step 4 of your google maps tutorial: http://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/how-to-register-a-google-maps-api-key/
I have also disabled all plugins.
I have also cleared cash/ logged out/ in multiple times.
Please send further tips on how to correct.
Thank you very much.
October 11, 2017 at 2:19 pm #862892Hey Tom,
Thanks for the info. First off, could you try updating the theme to the latest version (4.1.2) to see if that helps please? http://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/updating-your-theme-files/
Best regards,
RikardOctober 11, 2017 at 4:44 pm #862954Hi Rikard,
Updating enfold and clearing cache- no change. Please keep in mind I am using the enfold support provided API key.
“Could not connect to Mailchimp with this API Key. Please try again with a different key
You might also want to check your internet connection and make sure that mailchimp.com is available”What do you suggest next?

You need to generate and authorize your own key.
Best regards,
VictoriaOctober 12, 2017 at 2:48 pm #863453Hi Victoria. Thank you for your help. I am very sorry if you have not read the previous ticket (#815094). There it is documented in detail how I attempt to create my own API key for google maps. No matter what trouble shooting is suggested, I was not able to activate any API key that I generated. Hence Kriesi support had to provide me with a functional key.
Could you please help me how to use an API key that I generate?
Thank you,
October 12, 2017 at 3:33 pm #863476Hi tom3321,
It’s all in the docs, there is nothing special, that you have to do. Generate, authorize your domain and paste the key to Enfold. Let us know when to check.
Best regards,
VictoriaOctober 12, 2017 at 3:44 pm #863485Hi Victoria. API key generated, domain authorized (HTTP referrers) and pasted into Google Services in Enfold. Please verify with credentials below. Thank you.
October 13, 2017 at 3:48 pm #864006Hi tom3321,
Here is the error that you’re getting now
https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/error-messages#referer-not-allowed-map-error
Can you authorize the url like
*mydomain.com/*Best regards,
VictoriaOctober 14, 2017 at 2:12 am #864193Hi Victoria. That is exactly how I configured the HTTP referrers accepted request. See link below. What do you suggest next?
October 14, 2017 at 11:24 pm #864364October 15, 2017 at 5:50 pm #864512Dear Mike. Thank you for the suggestion. That seems to work. How risky is it to leave this key unrestricted? Thank you.
October 15, 2017 at 8:26 pm #864539Hi,
While I believe that people are not looking to steal your api usage because getting one is free, my goal in suggesting this was to first get you up and running and then figure out why you can’t restrict your key.
Now that it is working lets fix your RetiredVersion error. Add this code to your Enfold Theme Options > Google Services > Google Analytics Tracking Code box:<script src="https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/js?libraries=places&key=your_api_key_here"></script>
replace “your_api_key_here” with your key.
Then try to set your domain restriction, perhaps without wild cards to start. Remember it can take up to 5 minutes for your settings to take effect.Best regards,
MikeOctober 15, 2017 at 10:31 pm #864574Very good. I made the changes you suggested. I added the URL without wildcards to the accepted requests, exactly as shown below. Refreshing the contact page shows error for map. I will wait 5 minutes and try adding URL with wildcards to the list. Thank you.
October 15, 2017 at 10:59 pm #864586Update: No wild cards required. Thank you for your help, Mike. Issue is resolved.
Do you anticipate I will need to create a new API for theme or WP update?
What do you think caused the trouble?
Thanks again!
