    Dear Kriesi,

Is there anything I can do to reduce the time taken for my photography galleries to load (example link below)?

I am using images at a good resolution, as the quality of display is important for photography, but I am using a lot of compression and webp format to make them as efficient as possible. I have enabled lazy loading but nothing appears on the page until all images are loaded, which takes several seconds.

Are there caching plugins I should be using?

    Thanks, Richard

    Hey Richard,

    Thank you for the inquiry.

Have you tried disabling the preloading effect? The average file size of the images on the page is 617 kB, which makes the page quite heavy. The rendered size is less than 400px, but the actual size of the images is over 2000px. We recommend uploading smaller images and make sure that they are compressed.

    Best regards,
    Ismael

    Thanks Ismael,

I have created identical galleries with the images at height 800px, half the original resolution (see link below) but the time taken to load the gallery is still the same (around 5 -6 seconds on my connection)

I’ve disabled the preloader for the site, but the lazy loading on galleries still doesn’t seem to be working. The entire page of images is loading before anything is displayed on the page.

I can’t reduce the images down to a resolution of 400px, as they will then look very poor when displayed at larger size in the Lightbox. I’m a photographer so image quality is important.

    Best wishes, Richard

    Hi,

    Thank you for the update.

The new page loads significantly faster on our end, taking around 2 seconds or less. The images are now a third of their previous file size and there are fewer of them in this new page. However, 200+ kb for a single image is still quite heavy. Have you tried checking the site on a different network or connection?

    Best regards,
    Ismael
