Hi Support Team,
After the update from Enfold Theme 4.5.6 to 4.5.7 I have to find out that “File merging and compression for CSS” still doesn’t work.
There is still the problem described below: https://kriesi.at/support/topic/file-merging-and-compression-for-css-feature-not-working-in-enfold-theme-4-5-5/#post-1081425
This means that my custom CSS layout is not displayed.
Why has the long announced fix still not been integrated?
Yigit wrote on April 29, 2019: Fix will be included in upcoming version of Enfold.

LeoMay 14, 2019 at 1:07 pm #1100515Hey Leo,
Sorry if you are still having troubles.
All fixes concerning CSS compression have been merged in 4.5.7.
Did you clear all server cache and remove all old compressed files?
Are the problems concerned with URL’s to images?
How did you enter the links?Best regards,
GünterMay 14, 2019 at 8:56 pm #1100747Hi Günter,
I did it as described below, but my custom CSS layout will no longer be displayed, when I enable “CSS File Merge and Compression”. The CSS statements, which I defined in the style.css of the child theme, are then no longer used.
I followed the following instructions to perform a hard refresh in Google Chrome and empty the browser cache: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/how-to-clear-the-cache/
I haven’t set up a caching plugin for WordPress.
Furthermore I removed all old merged and compressed CSS and JavaScript files by activating the option “Delete old CSS and JS files” from “Enfold Child > Performance”.
Since the update from Enfold 4.5.6 to 4.5.7 there are apparently no problems with URL’s to images. With Enfold 4.5.6 at least one background image was not displayed. This is working now.

LeoMay 15, 2019 at 11:52 am #1100985Hi,
Thanks for coming back.
I rechecked building of the compressed file:
– styles.css of the child theme is the last one
– enfold/css/custom.css is located right before styles.css
– Custom CSS is located right before enfold/css/custom.css
– all other CSS is located before Custom CSSFrom that point I cannot see a problem.
Can you give us WP admin rights and FTP so we can check your backend and the created files?
And can you provide us a link to the page with problems?
Best regards,

Today I updated another website from Enfold 4.5.4 to 4.5.7.
Unfortunately the same problem as described above occur afterwards.
As soon as I activate “CSS file merging and compression” my individually designed CSS website layout is no longer displayed.Would you please take a look at the website mentioned below.
Thanks,

May 17, 2019 at 12:22 pm #1101749Hi,
Thanks for the credentials.
I see a problem with the file enfold-child/style.css.
In WP theme editor (Dashboard -> Design -> Editor -> Selectbox Zu bearbeitendes Theme wählen -> Enfold Child -> Stylesheet style.css there is only an empty Textbox.
If I download the file and try to open it in my dev environment Netbeans I get the message: File cannot be opened safely with UTF8 encoding.
I created a file with the #wrap background image (style_support.css). Using this file as style.css merging works and the image is shown.
Try to edit your style.css with a normal editor and use UTF-8 for safeing.
I uploaded a safed version in my dev environment (style_ori_support.css) and if you use this for merging the background image is loaded in #wrap (console).
I left everything as it was before (deactivate CSS compression, style.css is the original one)

May 20, 2019 at 12:39 pm #1102459Hi Günter,
After I saved my unchanged style.css of Enfold Child Theme with Microsoft Text Editor as UTF-8, my individual CSS layout is now displayed again, as soon as I activate “CSS file merging and compression”. Now I can also see the contents of style.css in the WordPress Theme Editor.
However, now I have a new problem.
It’s about the background image of #wrap_all in the header of the website, which is displayed in every content page of the website.
With activated “CSS file merge and compression” this background image was displayed correctly with Enfold 4.5.4 at any width of viewport.
After updating to Enfold 4.5.7 the background image is now only displayed, if width of viewport is greater than or equal to 990 pixels. As I can see in the source code, my CSS statement with specifications for this background image will no longer be shown at all width of viewport less than or equal to 989 pixels.
All works fine by deactivating “CSS file merge and compression”.
Why is that? Is this intentional or is it a bug in Enfold 4.5.7?
With Enfold 4.5.4 it worked correctly. It must not be, that I have to write additional CSS instructions for the merged and compressed CSS files in the future.
That would be unnecessarily complicated and costly.Thank you!

May 20, 2019 at 1:02 pm #1102468Hi,
You have 2 media query for #wrap_all. If you open in in WP theme editor (Dashboard -> Design -> Editor) you see an error in line 20.
Try to fix this – you can save the file in WP editor. What I see is a probably non printable character in Line 1 col 1. Delete this and the red X goes away. You need to disable merging, save options and enable again.
The first query is for the smaller screens and probably skipped due to that error.
the avia-gutenberg files are created by theme and needed – do not remove them. Only needed in backend for block editor.

GünterMay 20, 2019 at 6:47 pm #1102543Hi Günter,
I did it the way you recommended.
Now the background image is displayed again on the smaller screens. Is Enfold particularly sensitive to non-existent UTF-8 encoding and errors such as non-printable characters after the latest updates?
I think, so far that hasn’t been a problem.Thank you very much for your help!

LeoMay 21, 2019 at 9:52 am #1102766Hi,
Great everything works now.
We are using the standard php function file-get-contents to read the file content for merging.
Could depend on server OS because we did not get any reports about that.
And yes, you can remove the 2 css files.
Enjoy the theme and feel free to come back when you need further assistance.
Best regards,
